Well, I'm a total newbie at 3d Studio Max. I have had some experience modeling in Blender 3D, so modeling isn't to difficult for me, but texturing and making materials is. Heres the problem:

-I made this heart pendant, and would like to texture it with a reflective material. I've looked through a few tutorials, and emulated them to the letter. But my material is still not how I would like it. Heres a pic.

Now, I like the reflective ness on the sides, but whats with that black line around the top. It looks like an outline, which I don't want to be there. Any ideas?

Any reply would be apprieated(sp)

Looks like the black line is being caused by the reflection of the spotlights falloff area (or perhaps it's even being caused by the refraction of the shadow beneath the object.)

Widen the spotlights falloff zone and re-render and see if that is the cause of the reflection.
Or turn off the objects shadows properties and re-render.

This will give you an answer as to the cause.

If the black line still remains in both cases then you should probably insert a reflecive map into the environment slot of the scene or into the reflection slot of your objects material.

I think, it's probably the black background causing that effect. you should change the color or put an image or something in the slot.

Btw. why are you creating 2 damn posts for one single questions that you can easily answer youself by looking into the handbook/onlinehelp?

cheers,
Leon

thanks guys, and Tex, yeah I shouldn't of created two posts. The thing was, I thought i closed my browser before I could click "submit thread", but apparently I did not. Next time I'll be sure not to post two threads about the same thing, because it pisses me off aswell.
