This model is for an upcoming game, NASCAR Thunder 2003. I modeled this car for Kevin Hamlin, who is the 2001 Raybestos Brakes Northwest champion, and will probably win the 2002 series as well.
Right now I'm sitting under 2,000 polys and all was created with 3ds Max 3.1 (spline cage) and rendered with Brazil 0.4.52.
If you're interested in how I made it, check out the following link:

Nice! Would that be a short track or speedway car? :O)

Hmmm, Nascar.
I very much like the old nascar (like U know from the movie "Day of Thunder") ;)
But the cars today...looks like big R/C Cars.
I prefer "GT" Cars now (like Japan GT, the cars from the britisch gt etc.)
The V8 Star series Cars, here in germany, are very much like nascars. Ok maybe smaller. But much cooler ;)
But WHY ONLY 2k polys? Isn't that game for new computer, or is the engine that old?

Thanks courtney, it's a short track car. (Local type stock).
Daniel, when building a game model keeping the polygon count low is always a priority. Especially when it gets multiplied 40+ times (all of the other cars on the track).
Also, this car is a bit elongated in comparison to a standard Winston Cup stock (the big boys).
Thanks for the reply to,

I was just about to say that it looks slightly different. Looks like the wheel tubs are larger than what they should. I tried to compare with a picture on the that website but couldn't really see a good close pic. Since this is for a game it's not really a big deal.
As far as detail is concerned:
I also noticed that the grille openings are a little small. But maybe it's the way the car is turned in your model-pic. What about exhaust pipes. Right sides only or are the skirts covering up the pipes (in other words, exhaust pipes don't matter since it's for a game)? Also looks like there's nothing behind the seat. Do these cars run a oil tank for dry-sump oil systems?
As far as for the game is concerned, looks very good. I would leave it the way it is...looks great.

Thanks,
Most of there components are nestled under the interior, unlike WC cars that is pretty much hollowed out and everything is visible from within the interior.
As for the exhaust, there is a small vent on the right side of the car, halfway up through the body, unlike WC cars that have a large vent coming under the skirt on the left side of the car.
Here is another angle for you're "viewing pleasure".

Nice! I like. Clear spoilers huh? Strange...wonder what the reason is behind that. NASCAR...I swear, you never can tell these days. Looks good though. Looks done to me. Could you post a pic from under the car. Do you have an "engine" in it....incase the car flips during the game, there won't be a vacant hole there?
Nice job,

Hi folks...
this is a Northwest series car which is smaller and lighter than a Winston Cup car that you would see on tv every weekend
they are made out of fiberglass that is why you see the clear spoiler cuz it's plastic as a post aluminum in a wc car

actually those things are true to life stock cars...most of them you could see at any short track during the summer.
BTW Tyler it was cool to see Hamiln's car on that model:thumbsup:

I'll get some interior shots in a few, as well as wireframe.
Meanwhile here is a shot of the "real" car. (So you can get an idea of size).

Hi Daniel,
I don't know about Raybestos Series, but in Winston Cup and Busch there are 4 types of cars: Chevy Monte Carlo, Ford Taurus, Dodge Intrepid and Pontiac Grad Prix.
As far as the "sharp lines" are concerned, again, not sure about Raybestos Series, but in Cup and Busch, the shape of the car are dictated mostly by templates that the car has to fit to be legal. Depending on the template (there are alot of them), you have tolerances...meaning, you might could be +/- 1/8" off at one point and perhaps +/- 1/4" off in another. It doesn't seem like alot but it gives teams room for error (cause all of these cars are just sheet metal rolled into shape by hand and nothing a human does is perfect) and the ability to tweak here or there depending on whether they want to try and drop drag or add down force. I believe that the Raybestos Series cars are just a complete shell and there shape is already determined by the mold. I don't know if the rules will allow teams to change the shape of it in certain areas or not. For Cup and Busch cars, the manufacturer gives the teams noses and tails which is NASCAR approved. These pieces are made from molds and their shape can't be altered. The lower part of the nose is allowed to be altered (below the headlamps). Each team has there own way of doing valances (lower air dam) so some will cut small slices out all around the nose to give it a certain shape. Most always that shape is determined by what type of track the car is being built for (short track, intermediate track, super speedway). Some sheet metal is also sent from the manufacturer which is NASCAR approved; decklid (trunk), hood and roof. These pieces can be altered slightly, again depending on the track the car is built for. But they have to be the approved pieces and fit the templates. Again, there is room for play but not much...the templates don't allow for much. The rest of the body is fabricated by people rolling sheet metal into the correct shape.
I don't know how much a Raybestos car weighs, but a Cup car weighs 3400 lbs.
Probably more info. than you wanted to know...but hope this helps.
:O)
