Where can I find a good resource to learn about consumer level video cards and how they work with maya. www.aw.sgi.com has a technical analysis of certain cards, but all nVidia and ATI cards seem to be ignored. Where can I learn about these cards, specifically the ATI Radeon 8500, 9000 and 9700?

Thank you everybody!
Sean

I just found this link about hardware requirments for maya 4.5

http://www.aliaswavefront.com/en/Community/Support/qualified_hardware/QUAL/maya_45_NT.html

it says that the consumer level cards of ati and nvidia are going to have problems, or not supported at all. the link does have comments on the mid to high end cards from those manufacturers, though.

I have a Radeon8500 card and maya works fine with it, the same is with my friend's radeon9700 - i don't see the problem :/

I think those cards will 'generally' work, but there can be specific problems with them.

I used to run maya 4.0 with an ati all-in-wonder pro without any real problems. Whereas, alot of my friends, and the computers at school had geforce cards. The hypergraph on those machines would crap out every now and then.

I am now running maya 4.5 on that same old ati, everything is fine, but one thing. The new ramp shader material node makes maya freeze. I'm hoping it's a software problem but I am thinking of getting a mid to high end card. If I do I'd try to follow the guidelines that come directly from alias wavefront
