View Full Version : $19.95 for an update file?
javierdl 12-22-2004, 07:20 PM Updatenow.org charges the amount above mentioned for its update file, claiming it fixes some security stuff. Does anyone know if this is for real, or is it scam?
I guess patchnow.net does the same.

I have some magic pills here which increase your length by 2 inches and provide maximum stamina if you like.

Don't take that pill!!! Wait until after you've seen my bridge. It's in Brooklyn, known as the Brooklyn Bridge, but I'm willing to sell it real cheap.

I know, I know! LOL
It's natural to find this suspicious, but does anyone actually know for a fact to be a scam?
I learnt about this at the end of a driver installation done by the Win2k Wizard, it poped up a small window with a message saying that all the Windows flavors but ME were/are at risk without this patch, blah blah blah....

That pop-up is most likely the result of some adware/spyware app that's found it's way into your system. It could also have been an advertisment launched by your driver installation package. You will never have to pay for patches for Windows, and any patch that comes from anyone other than Microsoft should be treated as hostile.

I can't believe anyone would actually fall for this. I bet you would have some SERIOUS issues after installing one of their "updates".

yep. those guys are bad. they infected a computer here at work, but the upgrade to sp2 seemed to shut the door on them pretty good.
