View Full Version : PS 7.0 strange problem with multiply layers

I've been using PS7 for several months now after converting from 5.5. It has been working fine (although there are definitely some things to get used to). Just the other day, I upgraded my system, new mobo, new video card, etc.

Since that upgrade, I've noticed that all my images that include a layer set to Multiply have weird verticle bars on them. If the Multiply layer is set to 100% opacity, then you can't see them, but if you start dropping the opacity they become visible. On some images they cover the whole screen, and others they appear in a smaller box (see image). I loaded up my old copy of 5.5, and the bars aren't there!

Any idea what might have happened during the upgrade to cause this? I'm using the latest video drivers (for my radeon 9800pro).

I had the exact same thing happening. I've also got a Radeon card (x600) - after switching to CS I no longer have the problem.

I had a radeon card before the upgrade too, a 9600xt. What do you mean by "switching to CS"?

I mean I stopped using Photoshop 7 and moved to Photoshop CS.

Nope, that's not on, so it must be something else. Damndest thing.

since the layers in photoshop have basically 2 parts, colour and opacity. And the display of these has in hardware terms having nothing to do with software, ur problem can only be due to the card's settings....however. In Photoshop in the Colour Presets, u may find in some of the settings there, and maybe in Advanced Options, something that needs to be altered, to fit the new operation of ur display with this card. I couldnt find anything myself, only because my card displays fine, i have a Raedon 9600 Pro, so it cant be anything wrong with Adobe/ATI issues. It just must be a setting.

All u can really do, is either find someone who has the same card or similar situation, and has fixed it...or just experiment.

A display issue has nothing to do with final output. so if u had finished, and saved it as a jpeg, the image would have no lines, and certainly in print, u wouldnt see the lines. So obviously, it is a setting to do with how ur card deals with transparency...or, there is a confliction between the operations of Photoshop and the Card's software.

thats all i could think of.

hope it has helped

Hey, I've got the same problem too, except it definitly isnt the video card, because it saves it into the filehttp://cgtalk.com/images/smilies/sad.gif Below is an example of this problem, this isnt a screenshot, but what the file gets saved like in Photoshop. This only happens sometimes, maybe when I'm using lots of ram?

a corruption like that on the file would suggest a strong possibility of hardware corruption.

Thanks for the link mlkdesign! That fixed my problem, at least when I tried to replicate what I had just done this morning, hopefully it fixed it completely.
