i know you can do this but i cant seem to get it to work again. i am detaching my skin from my joints and saving the history and then i am moving the shoulder joint to move the pivot. i then was under the imresion (and i have done this) that since i saved the skins histiry i could re skin it and the skin weights will all be the same as i left them. but my problem is it wont let me reskin cause it says the location of my shouldrs is not the bind pose since i moved them. if anyone can help me and fill in a posible step i am missing that would be great. thanks alot

Katon,

To change the bind pose, detach the rigid/smooth skin, adjust the skeleton and deformable objects as desired, and then bind skin again. If you have any IKs, constraints, spline handles, etc... you must disable them by selecting Modify > Enable Nodes > Disable All. Then select Skin > Go to Bind Pose, and then enable all nodes again by selecting Modify > Enable Nodes > Enable All.

You should be able to achieve your bind pose by doing this.

Hey I had the same problem. Because you have detached the skin, You have created a new bind pose position by moving the shoulder joint so in order to fix it I had to create a new bind pose postion, Make sure that absolutely nothing is attached to the skeleton and then rebind the mesh. By doing this you will have created a new bind pose.:D :scream:  Hope this helps

Well, you don't necessarily have to unbind your skin in order to reset your bindpose.

If you move a joint after binding and want to make that new position part of the bind pose, you can do the following:

1) select the joints to go into your bind pose. If all joints, then you can just select by type|Joints

2) type the following command into your command line or script editor: "dagPose -reset -name bindPose1" (you can abbreviate that to: "dagPose -rs -n bindPose1"), where bindPose1 is the name of your bind pose.

Caveat: sometimes resetting your bindPose after skinning will cause havok with your weights, but for me I find it works with little or no headache. I just had to reset my bindPose on a complex facial skeleton with pretty fine, specific weighting and had no problem. For me, it works better than having to export and import skin weights and is much faster to execute.

Let me know if you want a better explanation.

Well thanks everyone for the help but today before i saw your guys great help i remembered. what i do is detach you skin but in the option box you can keep history. so do that then detach the skin then select your bone set and in then delete your bind pose by typeing, delete bindPose1, or whatever your bind pose is called. then you can move your joints to desired location and then rebind. it works great and i have never had a problem excpet forgetting to delete my bind pose. so there it is i hope that help some off you as well as it does me. and thanks for the ideas and if anyone else needs more detail on this just reply. thanks
