People I rarely ask anything, but now I really NEED help! :scream:

My customer asked me to save an animation (that I was working for him) to MaxR3 format, so he could use it... Good knows why...
I have only max4! I told him that it's not that easy.
So he kindly explained to me that if I don't find a way soon - I won't get a cent out of him. [Oh dear... 1 month of work. :argh: ]

The animation includes lots of bone setups, hierarchies, animated modifiers, morph targets, materials, etc., etc... So .3ds format doesn't help here.

Is there a way, plugin, script... ANYTHING... to save a .max file for 3DsMaxR3 by using R4?

I'm on my knees here, people! Please help me!

You are screwed I'm affraid. IK/bones in Max3 and Max4 have so little in common there is no way you are going to convert that file.

Maybe you should ask your client why he needs the raw max file rather than the output itself (the animation).

if the delivery of the maxfile was not written down in the initial project contract, he has no case . . . sue his arse if he doesn't come thru with the money

Oh darn... That is bad.

Iain: But I don't use the max's bones... I made lots of cylinders and linked them + added dummies (set to "terminator" as joints) for easier control.
Is it possible this way?

It appears that he needs both... And he doesn't tell me why - "Non of your business, kid."

Equinoxx: initial project contract?.. I didn't see miracles like that, though.
It's a bit different in this case - I'm a 16 y/o kid who works as a freelancer (almost illegaly, cause a 16 y/o can't work in Lithuania.), so I can't sue him...
However I could, if he would take the product, but wouldn't pay for it... That would sound as "stealing".

But maybe there still is a way?.. I just hope...

So what he is saying is that it is your fault that he doesn't have the lastest software?

Man, I guess you won't do any jobs for him anytime soon.

Good luck!

Sorry to say, but it sounds like he wants to take your work and run with it.

Personally, until I had money in hand I wouldn't hand anything over. At the most I would hand over a watermarked animation for approval. Once he's paid for that, deliver the final. If he wants to the MAX file so bad I would require him to pay in full before I handed over the RAW files. Even then I'd provide them in the MAXr4 format. (There are too many changes between r3 and r4 like Iain said.)

If worse comes to worse, walk away, and use your month long work as a portfolio piece.
