Well I am gonna try this one for sure the last one looked like a blast. My start so far :)

Great start

Lots of hard edges, but I assume you will add more smoothing later. What are you going to do as far as a mask?

The neck muscles seem a bit too far in the front of the jaw line to me

Very nice start! It would be nice to see the hard edges smoothed out and maybe a cleaner jaw line.

I am kinda going for the hard jaw line the more exaggertated look keep that in mind it will not be a true to life 3d creation by any means :D

Cool Dude. It's a very good model. Love the porportions and style of your character. He kind of reminds me of Arnold Swartzenegger.

Like the pacifier too. Its always a lot better if Arnold doesn't talk.

wow ... your guy looks he could kick my guy's ass anyday of the week...


just one suggestion.. from the looks of it .. it seems the arms would have to stay up .. sort of horizontal to the body.. there's not enough room fr the arms to come down.. do understand what im geting at?...

any ways the model is really loking good..
what effect are you usign for the renders?

I fix them up in photoshop with a mix of radiosity and cel shading

Cool man.

I think the chest-pieces are a bit geometric when compared with the other pieces. However, I suspect that whatever texture you end up using could go a long way towards harmonizing the armor. I dig the rivets, or bolt-heads, or whatever they are. I'd be sticking those all over the place.

The design and the modeling aswell are pretty cool but what I like most is the the rendering!!

I love the way the render looks. Do you think you could do a tutorial on the photoshop process? Or maybe a brief description?

Kickass!!!!

one crit on the last pic....you have a cool mask there, but I liked the "pacifier" more, it showed off his face--didn't cover so much of it up--and was (imho) far more unique.

looking forward to the render effect tutorial you promised us all :D

Thanks for all the positive feed back. I changed the pacifier look because I got alot of negative feedback on it. I have finished him and plan on rigging him fully tonight, so real big updates soon :)

I too would be interested in you process for shading.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I render out a radiosity version and then a solid toon cel version and then composite them and color change what i need to. I set the cel overlay to like 20 or 30 opacity.

how do you composite? you do that in a 3d program somehow or in postproduction like photoshop or after effects and blabla...?

Gah! What program? Your portfolio say 3ds Max, so what plugins for the shaders? FinalRender? Mental Ray? Ect?

3dsmax 4, brazil, illstrate plugin, then mix in photoshop. Sorry things i should have put in my last message :p

Damn cool, although I lokes him better when we could see the mouthpiece in his mouth.

Your character is GREAT!!!

Very strong and cool proportions and nice level of detail.

I have only one criticism, It seems like its armour is too heavy for him, specialy those pieces on the legs.

But that is just a minor point.

Like the rendering style you did! Looks as though it is watercolour painted. And its good to see clean modelling and how your accessories fit on to the model.

Yes, and do update us when u're done with your tutorial. :D
Im sure we all want to know how u achieve that particulat render style!

Like the style very much ! You said, that you mixed a brazil rendering and an illustrate rendering in photoshop, but how did you get the look ? I mean it looks, as if it was painted. Did you use any filter in Photoshop or did you paint the textures ? I would be happy about a short reply...

yes I paint the look in photoshop the mix just gives you a cool look but then it has to be painted or you could texture it in max and get something similar.

The first one is big, but the 3 other renders at the bottom of the post are too small to show the detail.

Should have the image scale to the window size, like in Internet explorer. Then people could see the images at their own limits.

Very awesome model tho. Would love to see it in an Enviroment too.

I've only got two complaints... One: the thumb on the hand holding the spear should be seen. Two: We want larger renders :)

Great work, and great use of Illustrate, Brazil and Photoshop. I really like the style!
