As we all know, the Inuit (Eskimo) kiss by rubbing their noses. And what better way to celebrate Christmas than under some mistletoe and the Northern Lights... ;)

OK, here's my entry (inspired by the movie "A Christmas Story") 1 hour, Painter IX/Wacom.

DigitalSkunkworx: Excellent detail, especially in the parkas. I like it!

Aghill: Nice lighting. Is he shaking a fist at Santa? Like he's saying "Get outa here - I'm trying to sleep!"

MichaelMotion - I like the snow and the shading on the wrinkles on the parka.

Tinitus - Nice colors and reflections on the ice, but it kind of looks like the igloo's floating on water...

DMage i like yours a lot, i had to stand across the room and see to appreciate it more, did you use painter?
Oh thanks! I'm glad you like it, it's one of the first times i just concentrate on an environment as opposed to a portrait.

I also forgot to mention: it took me about 30 minutes in PS, with a wacom. I've seen what people pull off with painter, and i'm intrigued... I might give it a try someday.

If n-e one has any suggestions on how to improve it, i'm all ears!

@Digital Skunkwrx: Awesome! I didn't think of that one (the eskimo kiss)! It's really cute! Also, the northern lights you painted in themselves look awesome! Too bad they aren,t really obvious.... However, i'd try getting rid of the line-art around their cheeks (for the blush), and all the line art for that matter, it might suit the piece a bit better...

@Atilas: Lol, great punchline! One can practice drawing all his life, but one is born with a good sense of humor, one does not learn it.

@the_nr: Nice, your bear is really well drawn! Excellent form, I'd work on Santa though, his neck seems to be missing :P

@eug3n: Heh, crazy eyebrows, good style!

@Everyone: Keep up the good work, and don't be shy to post!

Thanks for your compliments, I'm glad you like it.

@ DMageXVII - Yeah, trust me, I am trying to get away from using line art, but for now it's my crutch. I still struggle with digital painting- when I try to paint the way I do in traditional mediums, it all just gets muddy. I just need more practice. This piece I noticed an improvement, and hiding the lines it still looked ok. I would say that if I had put another hour into it to refine the edges and clean it up I would have been happy with it without the lines.

@ FridayEve: I like the subtle parka hanging in the background. You did a good job at portraying the more modern Inuit. The loose strokes also help him look weathered by the cold.

@ Vitriolic: I can just hear the song now... "Rudolph the red-nosed huskieeeee...." Good work, dogs are tough to draw, and you nailed it.

@ digital_embryo: The draped and wrapped sinew ropes look great, and are effective at moving your eye around the piece. I agree that adding the ice and fishing hole would finish it off nice. Maybe even a seal with a worried look popping out of another hole behind him.

@Friday Eve I understand that as a critisism for the modern world as well, that they sit in dark bars with a cold beer, and not in the place where they lived originally - just like the indians in america,
but perhaps my interpretation is too much here? i dont know :hmm:

but that is a good quality sketch there anyway ;)

Nice work by the way - Yourself and Friday eve have got two Juxtaposing takes on this subject with yours makin me feel 'happy' and Friday's makin me feel 'sad'.....:) / :sad: vbmenu_register("postmenu_1830436", true);

digital_embryo - Cool, I look forward to seeing your update. I'm thinking about working on mine some more, although I am not sure if I will have time before I head home for the holiday.

Yeah, even though mine seems all happy I couldn't help getting sad while doing it 'cause I don't have anyone to kiss under the mistletoe this year. But at least I have some good friends who enjoy beer to keep me company

P.S. Now that you mention Sesame Street, it got another song in my head... "one of these things is not like the other... one of these things does not belong... " That's gonna be stuck in my head all day! Bah! LOL

DigitalSkunkwrx, Tuzz- I always find it an interesting challenge when the topics deal with other countries and cultures. (mostly with ones that I know very little about) Like most people i will google it just to learn more about it. I have a great deal of respect and admiration for the diversity around us.
In this illustration I wanted to show one person's Christmas. This time of year can be hard if you are alone. The card represents people who he loves and who can't be there(maybe a child who lives far away) Anyway- its does not have to be sad- I think his buddies are going to show up soon and take him bowling. :)
