Hey I have been trying to figure out how to setup TP so it will emitte partials from the surface polys of an object. I know I know get StormTracer. I plan on getting ST But I would like to learn about TP also. SO I'm trying to use a Pstorm node and use the Psurface (I think its psurface I don't remember right now) to get the pstorm to emitte the partials from there, but I cant get it to work correct.

Anyone Have a basic setup for this to work?

I have looked in all the places I know for information about this but can't find anything.
Thanks

use a pmatterwaves instead, just one node, put the object (has ot be polygon object) in the object link. away you go.

under Objects / Object library / there is "TP Polygon Emitter" . you can simply drag'n drop the emiting object (must be a polygon), the objects to be emited and you can asign only selections of the emiter if you want

Yeah I have used this but that uses the pborn node and I'm trying to get the pstorm node to work. Plus I would like to understand whats really going on with the setup.

This pmatterwaves nodes has all kinds of neat settings that would be pretty cool to play with but I guess my question should be how do I hook it up to the rest of the nodes in the xpresso window? I mean what settings do I hook up to what nodes?

Is it me or is the manual for TP not very helpful.

dfaris,
do you have an old manual for Tp?
The new r9 manual PDF (from maxon website)
has quite an extensive description on Matterwaves.
I have played a bit with it (attention through this thread) and finf it even without manual 8but with TP knowledge) pretty easy to grasp:
put an object in the dropfield of matterwave operator, put a spotlight that touches the object in the dropfiels, turn on BirthType "Life" and watch it--
cool when you animate the light, great for Laserbeams that burn into spaceships--- cooool node.
Btw, it does not need any input, its a generator in itself---

you don't need to hook it up to anything to get particles going. if nothing is connected the particles will all be in the group "all".

OlliYes Olli I have the R9 TP Manual and you are right it does do a great job telling you want all the node and there options do. I guess I should have said that there is not enough HOW TO type of stuff in it. Like how do you set nodes to do what I'm trying to do. More examples would be a lot better. Plus all the TP stuff in C4D's Object libaray there is no information on or on how to use them to do certian things.

I'm just saying the manual is great at explaining what the stuff does but not good on how to set stuff up. Its like you know what the parts of a car are but dont know how to put it together.

Hi dfaris,

You can take the default TP Polygon Emitter object and delete the PBorn node and relplace it with a PMatterWaves node, and get all the additional functionality, along with simplifying the whole xgroup.

1. create a TP Polygon Emitter object by picking it from the Object library.
2. Delete everything in it except for the TP Polygon Emitter, the PShape, and PGroup nodes.
3. Add a PMatterWaves node, and add the On, Count, Life, Object, Selection, and Speed, inputs (on the left side of the node).
4. Wire-up all of the unconnected outputs on the TP Polygon Emitter node to the inputs on the PMatterWaves node.
4b. Connect the Particle Birth output of the PMatterWaves node to the Particle inputs of both the PGroup and PShape nodes.
5. Use this exactly like the original by selecting the TP Polygon Emitter null in the Objects tree and dragging in a polygon object to the Emitting Object slot, a polygon selection tag to the Selection slot (optional), a particle group to the Particle Group slot (optional, defaults to all), and a Particle Geometry object to the Particle Geometry slot. Set Particle Count, Lifespan, and Speed as desired.
6. You can tweak other PMatterWaves parameters by opening the expression, or you can create more user data parameters on the TP Polygon Emitter Null object, and then link those user data parameters to the PMatterWaves node inputs, or to the inputs of other nodes in the expression.

I have a couple of screen shots that would help you out, and I can email them to you if you like.

Dfaris,
have you checked out this maxon tutorial?
http://www.maxoncomputer.com/tutorial_detail.asp?tutorialID=242&site=

it might get you started on what and how you can use it.

If you want to use PStorm as opposed to matterwaves the have a look at my sun tut it deals with emitting from a polygon object

Wow good stuff here guys thanks alot. I need to check this out gonna be a long night. I'll see if I can figure this out and post what I do if I get it right. I'll let you know if I have more problems.

Thanks again.

PStorm is best for situation when you have a single point of emission that you want to use much in the way the old particle system works (opening angle, diameter etc.) PBorn is a generic particle creator and you have to take care on where the particle will be emitted and all it's other properties by yourself. You should determine what you want before you choose an emitter type.
Classic (hose like) Emitter PStorm
All purpose Particle Creator PBorn
Emission based on textures/light PMatterwaves
Creation at given time in user
defined area PDraw
Breaking up of Objects/Particles
in smaller fragments PFragment
Breaking up and reassembling of
objects PBlurb

You will find a good number of small tutorials on TP and Xpresso as well as example files on my website http://www.bonkers.de

Hope this helps
