given a situation, where an identical version of maya is installed on several machines (unix/linux), how would one go about sending a render job out from one workstation to the other(s) in an attempt to continue working on the scene on the current machine while a render is in progress?
is this possible at all with maya and mental ray if there's no mental ray standalone on the
"slave"-machines? can i designate normal maya installations as render slaves?
also, since i've never worked with a render farm before: if i sent out a job to the render slaves, how do i obtain the final image (and check the rendering progress)? is there a way to automatically send back the finished image to my machine and display it on-screen or do i have to grab it manually from the filesystem?
i've looked up tutorials like the "mental ray for maya render farm setup" but they are all aimed at the classic master->slave setup and do not help me that much in this specific situation.
any insight greatly appreciated.
