CGTalk - limit influence along curve?

After adding a curve as an influence to a smooth bind, anybody know of a way to limit the deformation to the area of the curve where CVs are being moved? Since the wire tool can do this I was hoping there might be a way. The wire tool is not working for me since I'm looking for more control of the wire's influence on the mesh.

Other workflow ideas that would achieve the same end result are also appreciated.

Ive never run into your problem before, but you could open the Attribute editor and see if there is anything there you could do. Its where I would start, good luck.
