Well before anyone else eats you alive, I'd highly suggest going through all the tutorials in the great Maya help files. Then perhaps take a look through:

http://www.learningmaya.com/tutorials.php

It's just that your questions are pretty basic and shouldn't take you long to learn. But of course I'm not mean enough to finish my post with that.

To change the rendered background colour from black to white:

1. In the viewport of the camera you're going to render through, go to:

View > Camera Attribute Editor

The Attribute Editor will open to the properties of the camera you're looking through. The background colour is per-camera.

2. Scroll down in the Attribute Editor and open out the Environment section.

3. Change the Environment Color to white.

That should do it! As for creating a reflective floor, you'll need to create a polygon or NURBS plane, apply a blinn or phong material to it, then turn on Raytracing in the Render Globals.

Aww I'm sorry. Perhaps the skull avatar throws me off, making me think you're a harsh sherif not a nicey nice one.

Maya help ftl... Heh trying to ignore the posts that get asked over and over on almost a weekly basis gets tireing. At least people could use the search feature. Bleeeeh.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy helping people, but laziness isn't a virture that I would want to be portraying to people, but hey that's just me.
