View Full Version : can anyone tell me whats wrong here?

hi

i reinstalled my laptop and updated the windows and after that i browsed to my external hard drive and strange folders appear. does anyone know what are these and how can i delete these(because i cannot do so through normal procedure it keeps telling that access is denied) my external hard drive is a Maxtor one touch.

They look like temporary folders from update installs. That usually occurs when the system can't find your %TEMP% folder and just slaps them in the root of the drive with the most space.

Reboot in safe mode and you should be able to delete them.

It's probably by hitting F8 when the computer is booting up.

Look at the boot screen carefully when your computer is booting, and it should tell you when button tp press to get to safe mode.

i tried deleting in the safe mode but it gives the same message. this is annoying. any other suggestions?

If the problem is simply file in use by some process, you can get freeware programs that perform move/deletion during booting (before any process claims these folders). Here is link to one:

However, the problems is more like due to file ownership conflict. If no easy solution is offered, you may have to move the valid folders/files to another drive and perform a reformat of the maxtor drive.
