View Full Version : Geosphere?
Xilica 09-01-2002, 09:14 PM What is the difference from the Sphere and the Geosphere?
I understand that the wireframe looks different, but other then that, are there more features for one, or...
Thanks.

Just the way the sphere is generated. In general with the same number of faces, geosphere is more smooth than the general sphere.

Ah, are there any difference with choosing the Geosphere over the sphere besides the number of faces and the smoothness?
If that is too broad of a question just tell me I need to play around with it. :bounce:

From my current understanding a GEOsphere is much more suited to creating heads than a sphere (Even from a 1 segmented geosphere you can create incredible looking heads as i have discoverd) Also the wireframe is much more organically suited a heavily segments geosphere is very easy to pull eyes and lips out of but not so easy to work with.

Something else to take note of with sphere primitives.
Normal spheres (latitude/longitude) don't allow you to set latitude segments apart from longitude segments. Try using oiltank and capsule extended primitives as they have higher latitude segment values.
Eg. a 12 segment sphere will have 3 latitude segments
a 12 sided oiltank will have 4 latitude segments
a 12 sided capsule will have 6 latitude segments
Note: you have to hack the middle section and weld up again
