View Full Version : Probably a dumb question but...

I was asked for help tonight and they stumped me. They had a hole in an object and bridged it closed. They then set a selection with the bridged polygons and it wouldn't take a texture. I tried it with a torus...bridged the center closed and whether or not I set a selection or not...I can't get it to texture. DUH... I tried current state to object...etc. Connect is greyed out. I know it must be simple, but I can't get it. Any help would be appreciated.

I think I just answered my own question. I reversed the normals and it textures. ;-) I yelled too soon, sorry! But maybe it will help someone else. Thanks for listening!

maybe you need to reverse the normals of those middle polys

there are no dumb questions on here...especially when you answer them yourself.
top marks damsel..;)

I think it sometimes helps to just write it down. Do you know how many times I've asked for help on something here and then figured it out almost seconds after I've sent the message?

I would think, "These folks are gonna hammer me for such a dumb question!"

All one big happy family here, though. And it is very much appreciated...

Howdy,

Just curious, but did you have backface culling enabled?

Adios,

I'm not sure Dan...I will have to go and check my default settings. I didn't change anything before rendering. I will let you know. Thanks for the nice replies all. :-)

yeah I am interested to know that as well, the polys shouldn't just disapear like that because of a flipped normal... I dunno it just looks odd to me.

Just checked and backface culling was not enabled. What I did was create a simple default torus. Then made it editable. Next I bridged the bottom points as you see in the image above and created a simple orange texture and applied it. The torus took the texture but the new polygons didn't until I reversed the normals on the new polygons only.

after working with med ranged app ya get use to stuff like this.
after a while ya learn there our certain ways of modeling you don't do.

most the time it's a quad got crossed 2 points on the left our facing down 2 points on the right our facing up. so normals get confused.

a fast solution is to export the mesh as a .obj import it back in.
if the our holes then you know that's the problem area.

I currently have a bumper that keeps moving.not sure why yet, but time well tell.
