View Full Version : Tutorials for mechanical joints, Maya 4.0
wedge 02-08-2002, 06:13 AM Hi there, everyone. Do any of you know where I can find tutorials on how to construct mechanical joints for robot animation? I.E. the joints on a Star Wars AT-AT, or the knee and elbow joints on a Gundam, or (at its simplest) the way a door-hinge moves?
Thanks!

What part of that you don't understand? Just don't ant to write the whole thing :D . Actualy you cando it either with bones or just by rotating objects. In both cases you have to shift your pivot point by pressing insert key.
Please specify your problem with more details so I could better understand what excactly is unclear.

mechanical hand tutorial (http://www.highend3d.com/maya/tutorials/mechpoly/)
have you checked that out? Its probably not exactly what your looking for... but it covers modelling and animation... the same principles could be applied to other joints in the body.

there is a at-t walker tutorial on www.3dlinks.com , its just what you need.
the concept is pretty simple : just parent the geometry to your bones and do lots of set driven key relationships to the hydrolics :)
good luck
