New to CGNetworks: "Spiritual City" - Making of by Jaime Jasso

Inspired by a Brazilian waterfall, award-winning CG artist Jaime Jasso takes us through the creation of a superbly-integrated 2D environment made almost entirely from photographic elements. Each piece was hand-tweaked and painstakingly retouched in Photoshop to fit the scene, along with some completely hand-painted elements. The result: a home for the gods, menacing yet ethereal...

Each of the mosques* are jewels but,
when i see all together in one frame, i dont know but i didnt like it. There is a confusion. I prefer them by separate images.

Anyway, thanks for the labour. :applause:

(Mosque: The meeting place of muslims. Praying, reading, learning and teaching center. Not "home of gods".)

I think this work is spectacular....

It makes me breath a deep, refreshing breath...

But the only thing I would advise is to change the color of the dome on the Aqsa Mosque...(The Gold Jerusalem Mosque) because it's a famous mosque and seeing it there makes the scene too obviously a composite.

excellent work...

I wonder if anyone said that to Andy Warhol... I suppose since Jasso is not passing off the elements as his own photos, but reinterpreting them it's ok... But copyright laws vary from place to place I guess...

This is a realy beautifull piece! although as a designer i wonder what the landscape is like at the bottom of those falls. they seem to be pouring into a canyon, with that amount of water wouldent the canyon just fill up? but i guess thats part of the alure of fantasy. To leave you wondering.

as for the copyright stuff, unless you make a ton of money distributing this image, no one cares. as a personal project or as student work copyright laws do not apply. and i highly doubt the photographers (even if you could track them down) would care that you used there images in this way. at the very most they would ask you to credit them as being a part of the project.

Great compositing although there seems to be something off about the perspective of the water and waterfall tyo the right and behind the bridge, seems to be rising like a hill above the rest of the plane of the water

thanks for your kind words guys, about the copyright stuff it surely does not apply here, cause the photos were taken for normal turist people, no companies, but hey thanks to them I could do this.

Nice composite for sure, but it leaves me wondering why you chose to have the perspective so warped.
( Did I miss something ? )

Great compositing! Really nice, especially with the water integrated, that couldn't have been easy! Two things that occour to me though:

- the piece is slightly tilted, which (for me) makes it a bit strange on the eye.

- the horizon on the right side of the picture seems to be a bit far up, like it's REALLY downhill against the waterfalls, I don't think the perspective is entirely correct.. :)

Small crits on a really great piece, good work! (Wish I could do what you do... :p )

I can't help but think of James Gurney (http://www.blackpoolstudios.com/) also and his compositing work for Dinotopia (1995). Nice work!

Ecellent work as always Jaime. Trully stunning. I wonder if it took much work or time to color correct all the pictures so that the balance and lighting matched on the final composition.

I dont know,

looks alright, impressive concept and composition idea, But the skill in mixing the elements is not the best I have seen. Some areas are really successful, but most are just not convincing enough.

Thanks for the article,

Really a pretty nice article.
The image is astonishing and the goal to suggest a spiritual place with some kind of danger is reached, in my opinion. Also, as the artist says, some little tweaking could be made still, maybe on mist?

It should be funny and interesting to try to recreate this image on a 3D software.

 looks great...spectacular piece of art. The only thing that bothered me about it was the buildings on the far left side...they just seem too bright for the surrounding environment...idk mayB u should darken em up a lil or take a lil contrast outa them...otherwise i like the picture
