If I delete the proxy and then go to render a head I'm working on, nothing shows up in the render. Can someone tell me why that occurs? Thanks.

I don't work with cps, but maybe it creates a new layer with the smooth mesh and sets this layer to reference?

u need the proxy. the base is just the control cage, it will not be rendered. do not delete the proxy. u can hide the proxy and then animatie the character in the base geometry. the benefits of cps is that u can unwrap ur character in the cps base and it will transfer over to the proxy. u can rig the base and the proxy will follow. so ur computer will not freak out and chug when ur trying to do a walk cycle. it will be low pooly so it will move relatively fast. hope that answers ur question.

So once you enable cps, you can't "un-cps" it other than to hide the proxy (not that I have a need to do it, just wondering if it's possible)? I finally convinced my office to buy me Maya Complete and just trying to understand how Maya works.:buttrock:

Well sure you can "un-cps" it, and quite easily too (I think?) if you understand how Maya works. But if you don't need to "un-cps" it, don't worry, it won't do any harm there :p

Actually, now when I think about it, wasn't there a button to "un-cps" it somewhere in the CPS menus?

yeah -wT- i believe u can disconnect the proxy from the base mesh. The button looks like a scissor cutting the connection in the CPS options or toolbox. Can't remember which.
