very Futurama :)
Nice and simple! Great toon render, what renderer did you use?
I think it looks rather friendly though, not evil at all.
Wiro
thanks for the feedback guys! :)
WIRO: I used an old version of Illustrate! for Max 3. I agree almost totally with you, he seems kinda friendly, not evil. But he plays the role of the bad guy in a multimedia product I worked on some time ago. The character designer made the sketches, and that's what came out!

Very nice! and I think is very friendly too :)
You have made a great configuration on Illustrate! :hmm: I really love it.
I would like see a turn-around to see how the style of the render work in movement.
hey Pabbloz, thanks for the reply.
This buddy (at the end we assume that he's friendly ;) ) was modeled and rendered on Max 3.1 with Illustrate. Now I use Max 5, and I don't even have that plug-in for this release.
BTW, I remember perfectly that I did not change the standard configuration of Illustrate! render, except for the setting concerning the zone of intersection between Highlights, Diffuse and Shadow. Usually, in the standard config., it is quite blurred. I just decreased the blur value to get a manga-like shading. I don't like blurry shading in toons, so I gave just a little blur to that parts.
Hope it helps. Anyway, I'm gonna try the new Max 5 toon render with this same model. I'll post updates soon.

Great idea!
So we will see how Max 5 cartoon material works!
and I'm really interesting on! :)
Thanks!
That what I call a perfect cell-shading model. Looks really "toonish" ;)
Maybe changing a little bit those eyes would make it look more agresive.
good job
TNX for the reply Nadj. I know that it should be more agresive, but I wanted to keep the model as it was (it's quite old, about 2 years ago). It was modeled following the features pointed out by a character designer, and I want to keep everything as it was planned. Maybe the next character...;)

hey pabbloz,
here's the model rendered with Max5 toon shader. I didn't have time to recreate the exact color of the original rendering, so I gave it only 1 color. I have to play more with the settings, but I have the feeling that the good old Illustrate was a little better. Ink&Paint material of Max 5 has some interesting features, tho'. I'm sure I can get better results if I mess a little with the settings.

hummm it's quite good! :)
I really like know you can get these results with Ink&Paint material. I have to try it now!
I hope see if you can get even more good results! :p
the illustrate you have used is free, doesn't it? but anyway I would like know use this material of max, I think it's more useful to cominate with other styles...
btw.. what camera-filter are you using? the borders are a little blurred... although maybe is the compression... I suggest you use the 6.0 photoshop option of "save for web"! really useful! :)
Thanks!
yo Pabbloz,
Illustrate! is a commercial plug-in for Max. I don't know if they'll be upgrading to Max 5.
The blurriness is due to the bad jpg compression! Sorry for that, but I do mind of quality only in final versions of my scenes! :p

Great toon character, he reminds me of the robotic Dog that ACME supplied to Jerry to chase Tom in those old cartoons.
Classic.

Dodd that’s it!!!:bounce:
I first look at and couldn't figure out what it reminded me of it was the Acme dog\cat robots...
AXE that looks great the only it needs is to be animated chasing something... like a cat:twisted:
Good work, keep it up!
eheheh :)
you're right, theMax ... I gotta do something like that, one day or another! (maybe in another life...I hope I'll have much more time to do things in other life ;) )

If u want illustrate, u can use the 5.1 version (free 30-day trial download). But I'm not quite shure it works with max 5....
Also, have u noticed how slow the toonshader in max5 is?

You should add some 'wunderbaums', hanging in his armpit. That would be cool. The desing is realy great, love it. Nice cartoon shader as well.
CHRITTER: I don't know if Illustrate 5.1 works with Max 5. I have to check it out. And...yes!...I've notived how SLOW is the toon shader. It's quite powerful, tho'.
KAMSVAG: Sorry, I don't know what's a "wunderbaum"...Can you tell me please? :p
