De-Cypher 09-01-2002, 02:02 AM Check it... been learning 3d for the past couple of months, have tried max, lightwave, and others; but ended up using Cinema4D exclusively. First project for commercial work...

I like it, especially the blue around the tire! It intreags me that you used Cinema 4D, I guess I have not tried it for two years or so, and it is probably much better. The first and only difference I noticed though, was in the shadows. I am not sure what it is, maybe it is the lack of color in them, or the way that they fade off. Is it animated?

I was tring to do some HDRI (probably not the correct way), but takes a long time with Cinema 4D and I believe the texture on the rims are procedure, using a pluggin called bhondi-nut... so I just rendered it normally, I only have 3 lights in the scene probably causes the weird shadows... just picked up a book on lighting... so much to learn with 3d... but I am enjoying it... i feel like a scientist...
haha just tried to model and actual car... yeah right... I need some more practice... haha
Oh and no animation... it would be cool... just thinking about what I would do, haha I need a lot more practice if I every want to make my thoughts reality...

Keep reading that lighting book! GI is used way too much, we need more real lighters. So get good at using lights the real way. You'll get good soon. Its more fun this way too.

I really cant see anything that says hdri.
You need to have a light facing the camera in the background to crush those shadows a bit they make the whole scene look very cg.
Kinda draws the eye to the foreground instead of being equally lit.

wgreen: I tried the HDRI... but it takes to long... so I scraped the idea... I have in the past successfully achevied HDRI in Cinema4d there is a tut lurking somewhere...
Thanks all for the comments, it gives me confidence that I am on the right path...
The brushed metal look rocks... luckly that procedural does a great job. There is new C4D coming out... I believe this program will be gaining ground...

Looks good Cypher. Pretty clean. Just one thing... its pretty much a general rule that logos work as solid black and white graphic as well. This is a good logo illustration, just be sure that it works without needing to be 3d as well. Maybe Im just telling you something you already know, in which case ignore me;)
Or if you client doesnt care, then then neither should you I guess.
Anyway, me likes, keep playing with the 3D meng :)

I agree, I see so many logos and wonder how would that translate to paper? or a fax? Color can be expensive. Also, when you see things in black and white, one can see if the image is too busy and needs simplification. Remember, your client wants a logo, and a testament to your abbilities.
It does look cool, but I would like to see a black and white version.

my day job is graphic and web design, yes you are both correct that the logo needs to work in black and white, and as small as a stamp. I do have a vectored version of the logo.
Very good that you pointed it out... not many would have... I will be posting the final piece im doing for the hobbie shop. It's an ecommerce website...
thanks again to all for your comments...
