yet another illustration..
This one was inspired by one of the greec mythology characters: Sisyphus.. but i find out that it was a tittle a bit to intellectual, so i remembered this old video game you know, you push the rock and.. anyway ;)
done with max and vray, touch ups (lots of) with photoshop
(retouched version)

Pascal, you never cease to amaze me. Another fantastic piece!
Nothing to crit.

Love the composition, lighting, modeling, the painterly feel you accomplished, and of course the somewhat modern take on an old bit of mythology. bits of industry and technology in there.

Great all around, I'd love to see a higher res version, and of course the obligatory wire!

I love it! Amazing modeling. The only thing I would say is that I wish the boulder was more metalic looking because right now it kind of blends in with the look of the character. A metalic heavy looking boulder would only make this image better.

It's so good, i'm speechless. Well, almost speechless. :)
Your render is so hammered and ciseled that it doesn't look 3D. Only remains your art, no medium any more. Impressive !
Only thing, i can see to be improved is the right foot. It seems too small and abnormal from this point of view, but that's nitpicking...
Oh, wait, i ear them coming : the zillion posts and the usual frontpage plug. Doesn't matter for it's well deserved :thumbsup:

Another amazing image! I don't get what he's doing, but its awesome anyways...1 crit, the right foot(char right) looks really flat from that angle, I'm sure its how its supposed to be, but it feels like he doesn't really have a grip with it, or that its not there or something weird...The atmosphere is really nice as well.

Very nice!

It's funny you should mention Sisyphus, as soon as I saw the picture I thought of the episode of Ulyesses 31 where Sisyphus would be eternally breaking apart giant balls of metal parts.

Stylistically the image lovely, but I think it would have been good to have a bit more texture to the 'ball', it looks oddly clean.

The lack of texturing gives the image an impressionistic quality that I personally like. Outstanding work. Like AJ_23 it reminds me of an episode of the cartoon Ulysses. Could we see a version of the image before photoshop work?

Looks Great!

The torso is especially impressive! There is somehting about the foot that seems skinny though. The line above the end of the pants seems oddly parallel. That said, I love all the crap falling off the hunk of metal. oh and it would be neet to see his hands really squeezing the metal like it was fleshy.

Yup, Nice indeed...

On thing which immediatly caught my eye. His right foot look wierd. It seem out of proportion, like he had a really really tiny foot.
I realize there is a perspective issue here, which makes it look small. But it still drags my attention.

His eyes (or lack off) also draws my attention. Maybe a very small highlight in one of them might help it, you know? right now they look very dark, almost hollow.

And while we are at it. His right forarm is missing some "flow" . The shape of it gets lost in a series of bumps...

It's wonderful! Reminds me a bit of Baron Prasil's Adventures (if you know what I'm talking about), mainly because of the film adaptation that was done after the more famous book. thx for the kind comments guys, I worked last night on new renderings for the ball, making it more steel like, using Arnold renderer (amazing photorealistic shaders) and ill recomp the pict as soon as the new ball is ready

This kind of work push you to take your skill higher ^_^.

One critic, maybe the shoot should be more larger. The character of this myth is suppose to be alone in the desert, doomed to carry rocks for ever. A more larger shoot will put that impression of loneliness.

after reading some other comments... especially one where someone said something about some "weird bumps and reliefs" on the model arms and other areas... well, I dunno if it's the point here... but those lil "imperfections" do give more style to the picture... I really like it.. at a point I was even wondering if it was a real clay model.... those are exactly the kinda bumps you get when you roughly smooth the surface of clay when sculpting. so once again... awesome!

Great work. I love the mechenical artefact sense. Just to say something, maybe I think that the plates of the man shold be a bit more metalic. Beautiful scene anyway.

Grat work, your always gets at the same time very balanced and dynamic compositions, I can feel the weight and the force of Sisifo, many years ago I read "the myth of sisyphus" by Albert Camus and it impressed me. I like your version as well, congratulations!!

Little, ugly feet (must be big... yes very big).

And also,
as a photographic side, model must be put in the left of the frame. Not center. Give the other side more space to the mountains at the background.

And so, "for me" the best of ever you h ave made.
