Hi,

There is some new info on Modo available to registered users of Modo on Lux's forum....

Nothing major but more info coming out all week I think.....

David

(go to General Discussion, then 'Next Product?' thread - and no it's NOT about the next product before you get too excited)

Am I being too cryptic?

Sorry, we've all had to sign NDA's ... in blood! But it was worth every drop! :bounce: :buttrock:

A new update?

Cool! What's going to be in it? Or what "is" in it? O_o

Quite nice, but I already discovered some things that could be improved in the bridge tool:

- Rather than just using a auto calculated tangential curve, it should create an interactive spline to adjust (as in the patch tool)
- There should be a way to define the midpoint when blending geometry with different density. This would help to cleate cleaner geometry and explicitly define where triangles are created.

Some people are never happy. So far these new features are much more than I expected.

Oh no, please don't take this as criticism. The bridge tool is much more sophisticated than in other programs. It's just that I have been thinking about this particular tool quite a lot and had some ideas of my own. It's more a feeling of that they stopped halfway thru and didn't consequently consider all options. You see, for instance for organic modeling spline handles would be useful - you could bridge a long distance gap and interactively distort the resulting tube. Great for roots, nerves, blood vessels, fungae etc. Perhaps I should cross-post this as a feature request...

the bridge tool and bend tools look awesome far better than most such tools in lightwave and other apps

but what i want to know is if the bridge tool can do multiple bridges like this one for lightwave
http://www.polas.net/plugins/bridge.php

if it can it will be truely awesome (ok tahts abit of an overstatement but you know what i mean)

All the secrecy seems odd. Do they not want to sell their product?

They just like to make us folks who purchased already feel special.
:buttrock:
Which, is working

I feeel... sOoo special

Though I guess it would be nice to share the old news to the folks that havent purchased it yet.
Maybe they will do that next week ;)

Yes, it will all be made public fairly soon but, as a registered purchaser, it's nice to have access privileges to new developments first. :applause:

Can't wait to see what today's instalment brings! Only 3.5 hours to go! :bounce:

It's great to have all the secret handshakes for the "club" members, but to hide information from those of us taking a close look at this new piece of software seems very much like a stupid business decision.

Special content for registered users I could see, but information on basic upgrades to the core product??? wow.

You are right, how can you stand not having new features for a product you haven't even purchased?

They could easily have said absolutely nothing until they were ready to make an official announcement.

That they throw a sneak peak to registered users first is hardly a reason for the vitriol in some of the posts or the whining or bitching about it.

It's a teaser, a sneak peak.

It's not something the fate of the world hangs on, and it hardly qualifies as a bad business decision.

Vitriol? A bitterly abusive feeling or expression? Where did you see this?

...anyway Brad Peebler's commentin the Luxology forums answers my concersn quite well.

It is a corporate policy that we believe in. We can not in good faith announce a product until we have a solid release date. We have given unofficial nods to the notion that we are working on all aspects of the 3D pipeline. But until we have a very concrete idea of a ship date, we are not announcing or discussing product publicly.

Development dates are a very fluid thing. If we announced a new product and you decide to wait for it, delaying your purchase decision, and then we are late by a few months, then we put you in a bad situation because you based your business decision on our data. We do not want to put our customers in that position. So we err on the side of being modest about our announcements.

I understand this might be frustrating for some people, but it is the right thing to do for our customers and for our company. As we move forward, we will give information to our community in advance of public announcements since you are already part of the family.

We appreciate your understanding and loyalty.

Just read around the various forums or mailing lists. Including here.

There are some people that apparently feel threatened that Modo might do well.
