View Full Version : 50%gray to 0 Black
donvlatko 12-13-2004, 11:24 AM hello,
I am haveing a problem with my
displacment map. As you all know
when you make a disp. map in ZBrush,
50%gray is a 0 but Maya render and
Renderman need a black to be 0. I saw
in manual that you can make a positiv
and negativ map and make a shader
in maya. I don't know how to make that
in Renderman so, is there a way that
50%gray make a black color in
Photoshop?
thanks

you could try playing with the brightness/contrast settings? I know this is not a very exact way of preserving your map, but at least you'll be able to take it down somewhat and hopefully keep the details in the displacement. if you do it carefully, you should be able to avoid losing too much of the detail.

If you want to make that 50% grey background black use levels (Ctrl+L). Once the levels dialog is open click the low-lites dropper (furthest left eyedropper below the ok, cancel, auto buttons) then L-click once on the 50% grey background. Your image should change to reflect the eydropper selection, now click ok. You should now have a 0 black background.
