You can export a TGA sequence from AE (you can export the audio track if you need it), and then just make a MPEG-1 movie with TMPG Encoder (then you can include your audio track here). It's not a 'direct' method, but it works OK.

Cheers guys. the reason I was after a direct method was because i have quite a few renders to do from AE, so to do all of them twice [first from AE, then encoding] would do my head in...about to investigate doom9....
