Hi everyone. I'm very new to what comes to rigging so i would like to learn how to make some stuff i can't get done on the character i'm rigging(Sorry but as for now i can't attach any files, since my ISP is broken down, and i can barely manage to upload this thread)

I'm using 3dsmax 7
Well the first thing i would like to know, is how to rig extra acessories on the character. In this case I've got a Male body Mesh, with some cloth on it(I already skinned the body and the cloth above it, and still got problems with the weights and joints, but i'll try to fix it, if i can't, i'll then ask u the experts what u think about it ^_^;;), and some buttons on his jacket as well some "belt-like" jacket zippers(2 actually, they are made of 2 metal buttons which i didnt want to have any deformation, 2 straps of leather that make the feel of belt, and another metal part which gives the illusion of holding the 2 straps of leather).

What I would like to know is on how i'm going to rigg those buttons and leather belts(hope i dont have to use skinning modifer on each one of them , since the guy as around 10 buttons all around his clothes) in order to make them follow the cloth deformation. I've tried to link the buttons to the biped(i'm using character studio), but by some reason the buttons don't follow the biped and keep staying stalled.

Sorry for making the initial post to long... :S Hope u can help me.

Regards.

As the buttons are non-deformable I would use an Attachment constraint to link em to one of the polygons of the cloth. just constrain em, and then use "set position" under the attachment constraint parameters on the motion panel to put em on the right polygon.

I would skin the leather belts as they have to deform to follow the cloth.

and have you tried using reactor cloth instead of skinning the clothes? it'll probably take a lot of tweaking, but I'm sure that you can get better results than with skinning. (I really want to try it myself, that's why I'm asking  )

Two months later, i finally got some good news. it seems thay Aparently fixed up my ISP. I was able to upload this 2 images into my hosted web space.

Wald3d, sorry mate, cant help u on that since i've never tried it out myself. gotta get into that one of these days(maybe for this project as clalan suggested).

I havent tried it what u mentioned yet clalan, because i would like u guys to give a look into the model 1st.

As u can see, there is still alot of work to do on my first character rigging(not to mention that the character itself is still 90% untextured). I'm looking forward for any suggestions that'll ease my work, as there is still lots & lots of stuff to be fixed.

^_^;; maybe the rigging will be complete in one or 2 months...oh god!

I would look into the "skin wrap" modifier. I think this is going to be your best bet to pull most of this off.

thanx for all repplies. skin Wrap is really useful for the leather shoulder stuff. But for the buttons it aint because it deforms them. So i've tried clalan suggestion. It works really good, but it's very difficult to ajust the mesh to the cloth after u say "attach to pick object". ISn't there anyway to do it forcing MAX to use the old coordinates(like LOOK AT constrain, Retain original position or something like that) the mesh had ?

please help.

thanx for everything so far.
