View Full Version : max 4 and messiah animate?
cresshead 12-12-2004, 11:40 AM hi
does max 4 have a connection to messiah animate/studio?
i'm thinking of getting messiah but it has to connect to max 4 which is the version i use.
there's nothing on the messiah site to say what messiah actually can connect to other than a generic "max" or "maya"...does that mean it can connect to max 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 and maya1,2,3,4,5,6????
clarity would help me decide on a purchase!
hope to hear back soon as i'd like to get this bought if it does connect/live link

Hi cresshead,
Have you downloaded the Animate 5 demo and tried it out? I just downloaded the demo myself and looked in the "connections" folder. It has three folders for Max - "MAX4.x, MAX5.x, MAX6.x" - so, I suspect it does work with Max 4. I would try it for you, but alas, I don't have Max anymore, I stopped at version 4, and packed it away. ;)
So, you have a little homework, cresshead:
Download messiah:animate 5 demo
Install messiah:animate 5 demo
Go to messiahAnimate5Demo >docs > pmG > messiah_docs.chm
Read General Info > Using messiah With 3rd Party Apps > 3d Studio Max (You'll need to modify these instructions a tad and navigate to messiahAnimate5Demo > connections > MAX4.x folder)
And lastly, let us know how it goes. :)

cool!
i would download the demo but i'm on dial up here...so i'll get it when i'm teaching in college on tuesday as they are on broadband.,..
thanks for looking btw...
next stop is to see how useful xsi foundation's rigs are [i 'm new user to xsi foundation]
but at £129 for messiah and being able to animate and render in either lightwave or max 4 it's really looking good as i'm about full with character studio and physique...take to long and behaves badly in bone deforms...and wuld like a shortcut to rigging in lightwave so this looks a good desicion for me...
and autorig in messiah just make me giggle!...i hope it's like that with my characters as it looks like fun to rig adn animate.
cheers for the information!
...now where is my credit card???

I'm glad I could be of assistance, cresshead. XSI Foundation is a very nice app - but, I don't think it has "Template"-based rigs like Autorig in messiah. You have to upgrade to Essentials for that option. You may want to consider Point Oven Pro (http://www.ef9.com/ef9/PO.htm) one day since it supports messiah, LW, Max, Maya and soon, XSI .... so, you can choose your poison. ;)

XSI Foundation does come with an autorig, just their canned biped and quadruped standard rigs. In Essential you get to actually create your own custom re-usable rigs with the CDK.
I don't know how much work has been done with AutoRig II and python for creating custom re-usable rigs, since it was mentioned that, that was a possibility.
Does anyone know if AuotRig II is usable? I remember that there was discussion that it was not yet fully completed.
Cheers,

Thanks for clearing that up about XSI ... I wasn't too sure. About Autorig II, it's still being worked on by Ron G., ... hopefully we'll see it soon. :)
