Grand Space Opera 2D Entry: Philip Whitfield

This is a first sketch of my idea. On normal paper with a pencil.

The story behind the image:

The whole idea is set in the near future. People are ruled by a realy strict governement. Everybody acts like a mindless robot, gets up in the morning, goes to work, and gets into bed again. They have no hobbies or anything. Because they are always observed by their leaders by flying cameras nobody tries to do anything against this slavery.
Until one day UFOs suddenly appear at the sky. Most people don't see them, because they are used to stare at the ground, and don't think of what's around them. But one man sees them and he wakes up of his existence. Realizes that there is endless space to be discovered. So he tries to contact those aliens, but what will the leaders do with them...?

I'm trying to do it all in a blueish tone. So it looks really cold. I'm note sure about the UFOs yet. Dunno their shape and color, made them green for the moment...

Hey phil that's looking nice. I hope you get to finish it in time.
Make some concept sketches for the flying cameras, I think they need a cool design and they're near the viewer so they need to be fleshed out.
Well, I'm looking forward to seeing more.
