Hellow everybody ^^
here is another female model.
the head n body is pretty much done. haven't build her hands yet.
any c&c are welcome.
pls tell me if there is anything wrong with this model.

hesido : thx :) i've lowered the eye level, so that everybody can see the proportions more clearly :)

the images at the lower corner is the legs n hands which i re-use from my previous model, Lita. I modified them quite a bit.

i'm goin to do the hair n clothes. hope everybody like her :)
ops, nearly forgot to tell, she is an asian girl.

Overall a great job. As far as proportion goes, people come in all different shapes and sizes. The first posting, the body has the proportions of a girl in her early teens. The next posting looks more teen-adult. It is not right or wrong, it is what you are trying to achieve. There are adults that have the body proportions of early teens.

At the back of her head where the skull meets the neck, there is a sharp line. If hair is going to cover it, it doesn't matter.

The closeup of the face, the eye area looks to need a bit more definition. Maybe it is just the camera angle but the eyes looks slightly wide apart. Also more suggestion of an eyesocket, possibly sinking the eyes deeper in the head and a more discernable eyebrow. Any adjustments to the eyes would probably be very subtle, but I think would be a big improvement.

Overeall looks good. Clean mesh topology. I think you need to pay a bit more attention to details locally, but I don't know the quality you want to reach... Great work so far

unchikun : thx man. yeah u r rite :) actually i only lowered the eye level in the second image n do not really change the proportion. its a bit weird. others told me too that the first one looks like an underagged girl n she got much older in the second image..
i'll try to pull the eye sockets a bit. thx
about the line between her neck n skull, its because those head n body are 2 seperated objects. they will be merged later in the final results.

reef : thx. the detail level i'm trying to get ...... well, nice shape with lowest poly count i can do... n the rest will be handled in texturing.

michel.morel : hi too. sorry it take me a while to reply. this model is more than 10 days old :) i was really busy lately, n i can hardly touch this model. usually i done it late at night for one or fewhours.

Good job on the cloth. Is it a plugin?

On your previous post (not SSS) The new lighting is revealing some lines around the nose and mouth area. The line that goes from the side of the nostrils to the edge of the mouth looks too deep and could be smoothed out a bit.

From the profile, the bottom of the nose looks a bit too deep in the face. Maybe move it forward slightly, then the top of the lip and bottom nose area will look more natural. The edge of the mouth should be less rounded and more of a crease/sharper corner. Also the bridge of the nose could be a bit better defined. Right now it looks too blended with the face.

The lighting is also showing some indentations in the arm and top of the shoulder. The top of the shoulder would be ok if the girl was more athletic, but I think she has a more softer and smoother appearance.

Unfortunately I can't post images to be more specific, but message me if you want more info.

Great work overall! The mesh looks clean, topology may be a bit off but indeed, many people come in many different shapes. I would work more on her hands maybe, add a bit more detail there.

The shirt is absolutely gorgeous, care to share your secret? :) The hair is also very well done. What are you using for them? Shag hair?

unchikun : thx. the cloth is modeled like that. i moved the mesh as u said a bit. heheheh actually for her shoulder i looks a bit at my shoulder as references :P may it makes her not feminine. do u have any of the shoulder images? if u have, can u send me to sawamura@neorack.com pls :) thx before.

Stillwell : thx lots of five sided face huh? :) for the hands, i think i'll leave the detailing later in texturing. i wont have a super close up shot on the hands tho so i'll save the mesh poly count a bit.

the hair is just nurbs planes with transparency texture.

the lines there is the main flow of the mesh. again, lots of 5 sided faces. its fine :) just use it wisely hehehehehhe

I like the model so far. Kinda looks a little bit tiny and more like a smaller person.

As for the texture and skin material, try some color variation i.e. around the cheeks and the on the ears. Also some more SSS would be nice :)

Hey, excellent job!

There is a slight kink in the middle of the nose. Does she have a pimple? Nothing a little makeup wont cover ;)

Great modelling on the shirt btw.

unchikun : thx :) also thx for the mail :) i fixed her nose now. hope it looks better. i got pimples when working this girl.. so i decided to put pimple on her too heheheh fair enough i think :P

wybl : thx :) she will not wearing anything for a while till i finished with her body texture :) its quite troublesome when i modeling it with the details while "save the mesh count" filling my head :P

here is the update. her skin tone might look different. i do not layer the SSS skin in this image just in case anyone might want to see the pure rendered one without any photoshop touch up. i also add some detail at the area around her eyes. u might need to zoom in a bit to see it :P

completely agree with what unchikun (http://www.cgtalk.com/member.php?u=78660) vbmenu_register("postmenu_1813428", true); said about proportion/race, and specially the eye.

the last pic, the eyes r still not fixed. stop texturing and fix the upper eyelid area. the texture won't work if the model is not right at the first place.

btw, got a bump map of the face? could you post it? i think i got a better mothed of bump the face. but i got look at your map first.

Hey! great model! It could do with a couple of modelling tweaks.

Personally, I think the eyes are a little too high, and perhaps the mouth should be a little higher. I took your render into photoshop. Chopped the top of the head off, from the eyes up,and then tried to put it back where it felt natural, and the result was that the eyes ended up about half and eye height lower than they are now.

Maybe you should have a play in photoshop, get it looking perfect then tweak the 3d??

i'd tried miSSS. but i still got problems in layering with Mental ray rendering..
thx i've already check that thread.
the reason i cant get the SSS shows up and end up layering in photoshop is cos this model got multi UV sets. n i've post a thread about it. but no one seems replying.

may be someone can help me with this?

Modeling looks great! I agree the shader needs adjustment. The highlights on her face are a bit too hot. I'd say go to the image on message #20. That one looked fine to me. Maybe bring out the eyes a bit, show the color of the pupils.

Nice model 5awamura looking realy good.

One thing that just doesnt look right IMO the skin has no varietion(?right word?) to it. Like slight colour change around the eyes. Maby add freckles or something.

Skin shader looks great!

The eyes could still be brought out more. If you ever look at the eyes of Pixar characters, the pupils have bright lighting by light refracting from the cornea. This has the effect of making the eyes stand out, even at a distance. I'm not too sure how Pixar does lighting of the eyes but there are a few simple tricks to get the same effect.

Firstly the eye must be built with a separate iris. In the example I have, the iris has a small linked light which brings out the bottom part of the iris. You can also use an incandescence map.

Looking nice. How did you go about creating that skin shader? Did you use mental ray with subsurface scattering to render it?

I'm thinking the eyes and brow are too high up. Her forhead needs to be bigger IMO.

About the forehead thing, a first I agreed with the others, but perhaps it's just the fact that the mouth is slightly open? this could be elongating the face?

unchikun : thx i got the point. i just cant nail the irirs colour too much as i'm building a chinese girl. the eyes is still gonna be tweaked cos i'm planning on using SSS to them too.

rwijaya : wew.. hahahahah. thx uda ngingetin :) i'll answer in English. its true that stahlberg inspired my modeling. but I copy stahlberg totally? its because i build an asian girl with that proportions or because i agree with him about 5 sided poly? i must say no. i referencing other great artist too, exp. F. Cortina. the part that i followed stahlberg flow is her neck n front torso. i dont think it matters too much as they are going to be covered with clothes. another thing.. her body proportions, i got my reference pic from many views of the girl i want to create, but i saw stalhberg body shape in glance. n my body shape turns out horrible as my friend Zip said so. thx to him that keep giving me inputs about the "feminine side" of this model.. we spend nearly a week chatting just to get the calf n the butt rite hahhahahaha....
k another thing about modeling, the arms n legs are imported from my previous model, but i rebuild the thumbs as i figure something is wrong with my thumbs model. n again thx to Zip for inputing about the toes n Jfrancis that also give me a nice inputs about biceps, fingers n pelvis n others :).
well let me just finish the credits thing hehheehe, the last one will be the credits to all other CGers that helping in comments n crits in my WIP threads.

EdZenon : thx noticing it.about the eye brows n eyes i think they are in place as the reference. i've double check it with the reference. but thanx :) the skin is Mentalray miSSS shader.

Coaster : thx man. let me re check it with the reference. i want to model the mouth a bit relax.. n yes another credits will be to Jeff Unay heheheh i read about the hyperreal modeling n i remember about the spans i spent for the mouth side corner is not enough in my previous model, n luckily i found some reference pic of Michele Reis from many view angles n some of them are with the mouth open a bit :)

Her forehead proportion is way too short. makes it higher abit. the length of her forehead is to short compare to the lenght of her eyes to the bottom of the mouth.
and then the other is, the eye looks so dead like, its takes much of the realism touch or even i say character from this model.

but that just my "un professional" opinion. who am i to say all this stuff :P

btw, aceh korban nya sampe 95,000 yeh ? gile man, kasian. Indonesia kena tsunami abis abisan. Kudos.

A nice head so far! But I think her eyes are a bit large and stand to far aside from each other. Maybe that's desired... but it looks strange. Also try to detail the eyes texture to become more realistic and lifelike.

ER i guess this is a bad time for me to mention this but... i think u should scrap those hands ... okay maybe not scrap but fix them.

Nails aren't flat.. and thus u need to cruve them quite a bit. The fingers look like square tubes that just go straight from beginning to end. The pinkys width is too small and generally the whole hand looks very odd in shape.

I have a hand in my GSO WIP.. check that by what i mean for most things listed. -_-;;

on a positive note I think that texture / shader / lighting is working :]


ER and NOTE that the top of my hand where the bones are is NOT correct . im too lazy to fix it thank you very much. They should be all narrowing down as the get to the wrist

i really like the clothes, it really fits on the Asian model - probably i would change the color to maybe.. white, because i think it would make the girl stand out more. with a lighter shirt, the value contrast will be a greater between the skin and clothes. nice job and good typology.

about the skin shader, go to the Maya Forum in this site n Rendering sub forum. find the miSSS thread there. the pros there r showing the steps on how to get the SSS effect quite well :)
i'm using misss_fast_skin_maya shader which is very very nice n covers most options of SSS shaders.
