View Full Version : Questions about imported meshes and tools

OK, I'm on my second day of using ZBrush 2 and I'm slowly getting a feel for the software. I'm reading the Practical Manual and what I'm about to ask might be covered in that, so feel free to point me in the right direction.

I have imported a low resolution mesh (generated in C4D) and managed to paint some geometry on it using various stages of sub-divison and the standard tools. My first question is: when working with imported meshes, is it possible to use any other tools than the standard ones (Inflate, Pinch, Smooth, and so on)? I'm thinking about the Snake Hook brush, Bump brush, etc? I guess not since these seem to work only with pixols, but I might as well ask

My second question is if the Alpha option has any affect on the standard tools? If no, is it possible to get the Alpha to affect your strokes on an imported 3D mesh?

You can use many of the 2.5D brushes (those that work on pixols) to affect the geometry of your model (imported or native). To do so, though, you will need to use Projection Master.

Alphas don't affect the 3D brushes (pinch, smooth etc.) but can be used to affect geometry using the 2.5D brushes, again when using Projection Master.

It seems you need to pay Projection Master a visit - there should be plenty of info on this in the manual and other zscripts. Good luck.

Just be very careful in projection master not to create any overhangs. You'll know what I mean by that the moment you try picking up a projection done with the snake hook brush...

Thanks for the info, guys, I will focus on Projection Master this weekend then!
