Hey folks,

I'm gonna try and complete this by the end of the weekend, not sure how unrealistic this is, but i'll soon find out.

I want to make an oriental female model, very much along the lines of Zhang Ziyi of Crouching Tiger fame. Its gonna be 2000 triangles or less hopefully, might do a weapon if i have time. I'm aiming to build the model, unwrap and texture by Sunday night.

I'm pretty much settled on the idea of it closely resembling Ziyi, and was thinking of texturing with the look of the garment in the attached photo, but i'm not convinced that it's interesting enough.

Does anyone know of any good sites with lots of traditional japanese/chinese clothing designs?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I don't know if this is what you're looking for, but www.goodorient.com has lots of chinese-style clothing for sale. Not all the images show every single detail, and there are only shots from the front, but there should be some inspiration at least.

Hey,

Thanks Pikka Bird. Although, i've settled on the reference, also built and unwrapped the model. I've not had time to keep updating this thread (also got the same thread going on cg chat).

But here's an update anyways. The model is about 2500 tri's. Built in max 6. I'm pretty much done with the unwrp, and i'm gonna start the texture in a little while. (gonna try and get it close to completion by tonight)

I decided to model based on the clothes worn by Michelle Yeoh in the main fight scene in CT,HD. And i'm gonna texture along those lines too. I've made little tweaks to the model since i took these renders, but nothing major.

All crits welcome. Thanks.

I also did a quick little sketch of Zhang Ziyi.

Ok, here's where I'm at with this. I kinda neglected updating this thread cos I also had it running on CG Chat, and it was a pain to keep updating the same thing twice. :-)

So anyways, here it is. (Ignore the clothing. I've barely spent anytime on it, and I'm gonna try and nail the face/head first, then move onto the clothes once I'm happy with that.

All crits and comments welcome.

hey!!

seems to me that her tits just got alot bigger .
obviously that depends on whether you are going for the stylised approach or realistic.
though i suppose that if it needs to read from a distance than it 's ok.

flow lines around the face seem alittle strange. though if the face isn't to be animated the it should be ok. ( how does it light?)

also there is no give for eye lids. ( though again, if not animated shouldn't be a problem.)

and the ears seem to be convex, when pretty much all ears are concave in the middle

cheers!!

Hey, thanks for the reply rob. You're right, her breasts might be a bit big. I'll wait till the end and adjust that since it's an easy fix. There's gonna be no animation on the model in terms of facial morphs or expressions. I think the ears are slightly concave overall, but once the texture is done properly, hopefully it wont be too noticable. If it is, they I can tweak the centre of the ear, maybe add some extra polys to bring it out.

Cheers again. Here's a slight update on the colouring of the skin.

All comments and crits welcome. Thanks.
