View Full Version : WIP Dragon Head
Heimdall 02-08-2002, 02:55 AM Here is a Dragon I have been working on in Pixels 3D (basically it is Rhino for the Mac that sports a Reyes renderer).
Anyways, any feedback on the trouble areas is appreciated. I've looked at it for too long.
If you need a differently lighted render let me know.
When I get Lightwave tommorow, I can give you guys a GI render of it.

Cool dragon. So far its coming along nicely. One thing you may consider to improve it is to add more mass to its lower jaw, right now the stucture of it doesnt look powerful enough.

Thanks for the insight.
If you have any other critiques (even if it is to say,"You suck. Buy an anatomy book."), please post them.

Your off to a great start...the cool thing about fantasy dragons is that they can look however you imagine them.(funny like in shrek, or sinister like in dragon slayer)
I have drawn a lot of dragons and was always influenced by the way certain pro artists interpreted theirs. some of, my favorites are Michael Whelan (http://www.glassonion.com) , and Ciruelo (http://www.dac-editions.com/gallery02.htm)
check those out if you get a chance!

The nose initially had more of a cave in effect, almost recessed like some of the creatures Brom does.
It is not as recessed as it was inintially because it required alot of CV's around the recession bend which pinched the texture maps to much. The Beta Version of Pixels 4 I am testing has weighted CV options which should let me get the recessed ( I am half bone and armor plate Brom look) style I am looking for.
The bump and Displ maps are definintely temporary. The ideas I have for the Image Maps almost dictated the look of the head to begin with.
Looking forward to any other critiques.
I figured that coming to this board (which is considered to have some of the best modellers out there) would be the best place to start. And most productive.

After taking a second look i would say...why not? it looks great...it's not the stereotype dragon. ...but hey..everybodies indeed got his own vision on there perfect dragon.
i think the texture fits it pretty well.
I would work on the lower jaw some more. it's kinda smooth compared to the rest.. i would try to give it a more "muscular/armored" look at the point where it connects to the skull and maybe at the tip.
i'm really into dragons myself,
here are a few pics of my vision of a dragon:

Oh yeah.
I remember seeing your dragon a while ago. Excellent texturing.

One thing I would say is that the teeth are way too small. It's supposed to be a frightening character, right? Give him some menacing teeth. They look like little kitten teeth. Everything else looks pretty good.
