This is the final image of my entry. It doesnt matter how long deadline I have, it always gets finished the last minute:) I've been looking at the other finished entries and some of you guys do really impressive things. Also thanks everyone for all the comments I've got.

Didnt have time to enter last challenge, too busy. But this time I'll try to find some time since it seems so fun. This is the first sketch.

The glorious city Zerazii, the heart of the intergalactic kingdom is falling. People are fleeing. Amongst them is a young woman with a baby boy and her loyal droid. They are facing a life in exile but they don't know that the baby will one day lead the people and rebuild the city. (If there's any authors out there you'll get this idea for free if you use my picture for the cover:) )

The reason they are travelling in boats is very simple. I love painting water, much more fun than painting a dirty highroad.

Here at last is the line art. I have kept it very simple and basic since I often skip this step completely. The drawing is a bit loose since I prefer working the other way round. Starting with large areas of colors and trying to catch the light and shadows before I go into any details. This drawing will be the basis for the painting but most likely things will start to evolve when I start painting.

Good concept.. I like the idea of machine helping man whilst machine is the cause of destruction at the back.. it is contradictory and ironic and I like it.. good feel too...
I'd like to see more concepts though!

keep it up! :D

I like your idea, and the way you managed to bring it out. Many entry in this contest has good idea, but the picture it self doesn't tell it.

Good luck.

I like the changes that you have made in your sketches from the first to the second one. One thing I noticed is that your women looking lovingly into the eyes of the baby, maybe instead have more of a worried look on her face. Like the first sketch. If I was on a planet being invaded I would be panicking out of my mind!

Have put in some more details now, esp. in the background. But still not really happy with it so I'll probably change it somehow.

At the moment I'm working around the mother/child since I'm still not really sure where to go with them. It is the focus point of the whole image so it's important to get it right. But you're probably right about that and most likely I'll follow your advice.. maybe :)

Thanks for all the comments both you and everyone else.

Only one day left. Panic!

This is how far I got now. Spent a lot of time painting and repainting and repainting again. It's all done in Corel Photopaint. I have made some changes as you can see. Its now has a misty athmosphere. The sunset I had original was ok but this gives the image a more mysterious moody look. The alien ships have gradually evolved more organic. The girl is now looking back towards the city, which makes the image look more coherent. Now it just need some detailing and finishing touches

I like your colour choice for the atmosphere as well.

hey, really love your characters... i really wish i can draw them that well... but one thing i would like to see is a little more detail in the aliens... as they are a little too blurred for my likings.. but anyway hope u finish in tiem and gud luck!

Very nice story that is being told in the picture.
The only remark I would make is that the picture is very excellent around the woman with the child but gets very loose further away. This makes the picture a little inconsistent for me.

But hey, great work.

an awesome picture, with lots of emotions... I wish the background would be more detailed, but I guess u were running out of time.. I just know the feeling. Otherwise it is one of the most original stories here in the challenge, so congratulations on ur entry! good luck!
