View Full Version : Question on Workstation version.
xixax 12-10-2004, 02:45 PM "Standalone only."
Ok... I have XSI 4.2 Advanced, Silo etc....
I'm assuming I can import scenes and objects in order to shade and animate them? Not that I dislike XSI, but $299... I find it impossible to resist the temptation if this is a usable product for me. I see other posts around the net saying things that are a bit contradictory about that subject.
Thanks!

Have you tried emailing them and asking? Sometimes the direct method is the best one.

Huh? Looking at the speadsheet, it appears that some upcoming studio features will not be in the workstation over the professional. I am assuming maybe things like Hair/Fur, Volumetrics and an expresso machine.http://www.cgtalk.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Well, it depends what you want to do with each of the respective apps. If you want to use messiah just as a character animation plugin and render in LW or Max - then you don't really need messiah:studio workstation. In fact, there's no direct connections (embedded scenes) with the workstation version - but you can still use Point Oven Pro as an intermediary. Alternatively, you could just get messiah:animate to use as a character animation plugin to LW or Max.

i'm still somewhat confused...even with that link to at tickbox thingy!
i think that animate or pro both have "live plugins" for the likes of lightwave and max that means that your opened scane in max will get any new data passed to it via the live plugin so you don't need to export a file to max or lightwave...sorta like the "hub" in lihtwave...so i think that this is what is missing...but that still leaves me with the question that if that's missing can you still manually export your animation to lightwave or max or maya and manually load it up.. or is that also taken out of the workstation version..so you basically can import models but you can't export anything at all???
that also begs the question to having a wirkstation AND animate...can you bring in animate stuff into the workstation version to render it??
i have emailed pmg..maybe i should again??

Others have already answered the question. Studio WK can't be used via the connection host plugin, so no direct connection to any 3rd party application like LW, MAX, Maya and C4D. On the other hand you can use the Point Oven Pro software to export/import data from messiah, LW, Maya, more recently C4D and possibly more, like XSI.
Also, Animate isn't a 3rd party application, so you should be fine with animation from Animate in Studio WK, though why would you need to have Animate to animate and Studio WK to render if you already have Studio WK which includes both the animation features and rendering features?
