View Full Version : Scatter help
williamwonka 12-10-2004, 03:15 AM Can I scatter an object without having the objects overlap?
If not, maybe there's another way to accomplish what I want. I want to evenly line up an object, but I also want to use scatter's random rotation/translation, so spacing tool doesn't meet my need.

You may want to use particle flow. Use a Position Object Operator with a separation, that way you can evenly distribute objects over the surface and reduce your overlap.
Besides that, all I can recommend is that you scatter the objects and delete the overlaps by hand.

I'm gonna give that a try. Thanks.

Yes, use scatter and then apply Edit Mesh on top of it and delete/move overlapping objects. Polygon Element -submode is good for that. I've used that method a lot.

theres also a similar way of scattering objects by using Crowd. but i cant really remember if it allows separation. :)
by using the scatter within the crowd helper you can set the distance the objects need to be appart from each other.. but you can only scatter within a box, sphere, or on a grid object.

Thanks all. Last night I had a chance to experiment a bit. You can see that I've managed to evenly scattered the roof tiles and have some random translations, resulting in a worn and not-so-neat tilings!
