Julez4001 12-10-2004, 01:10 AM Okay. Not a video but its my notes and its coming from a Lightwave head.
I have to get home and gather my other notes as well so it will update this weekend at best. Just a start.

It hasn't been proofread, just took my notes and slap them2gether and tried to write some explanation and cut and paste. Will update that though....

Great job, Julez ! I myself come from a LW background as well and any help to understand how shading is done in messiah is appreciated.
One thing that you might add is that some entries form the shader properties are not in percent (i.e. in the 0.0 - 1.0 range) but in meters (e.g. a 'Bump' value of '1.0' equals 1 meter ) or in other dimensions (e.g. an 'Xtension amount' of 1.0 in the Basic Shader equals 90 degrees ).
Another thing that took me a while is that in the 'Transform' tab of the 'Texture_Map' node you can use 'Get Size' for autosizing the texture, though for some strange reason the xsize/ysize/zsize entries don't get updated in the display.

Always good point Suricate, i was trying to narrow those immediate and aloft things that may take some time to get to. Kinda though the Get size buttons was a given but I can see how that might get overlooked. The repeat function and such was changed during development of 2.0a so I made thata point.
You mind If I add the bump info is that from the manual......

Yeah, the thing about the bump is in the docs. :)
Another tiny little thing that you might add (and confused a newbie like me) is that the opacity of a node is called 'Mix' in the 'Shader' tab of a material, but 'Opacity' everywhere else, I don't know why ...

Updated tutorials again.
Add environment basics, very basic. But quick and to the point.

You're right, no excuses now. I'm still looking my way in messiah, for different reasons I couldn't dedicate enough time to keep up to date with the software. Maybe this Christmas...btw, I also jumped in the zbrush boat (quite a different interface, but it's less frightening that I thought), so you can see that character stuff it's my main interest in 3D, but we've got to make a living too...
Keep it up,
Javier.

Having this discussion with other folks
When creating poses, you should think of them as part of your rig (instead of animation).
For hands, having the perfect ball fist would be great pose. Also unlike morphs, the animation would non-linear get to that position and have a nice smooth transition. Even muscle effect (spherize, bulge, bloat) objects can be moved to certain positions without having th eneed to write expression (course u would have to remember each time u get in a pose) But by making a muscle group separate from say the "hand" group, you can have a nice set of poses thats part of your rig.

Created a PDF of Chris Reid Zbrush to Messiah (http://flarenova.com/Msx/Zbrush2Messiah.pdf) tutorial that he posted a while ago.
So with his permission, the PDF resides on the Tutorial Page.
Enjoy!

useful or not? They have helped me out a great deal Julez4k1 and I really appreciate you spending the time creating them. Since I'm still a greenhorn with m:S2 I can't yet comment on how technically accurate they are...but they definitely ARE usefull!

Sorry for being late, I really appreciate the time you spent on this. I think there is a huge gap between the docs and the practical use of the software, so anything you can do is very welcome. I've been devoting some time to learn zbrush and I can tell you that my progress is way faster because there are loads of tutorials about it. It's not a matter of just knowing all the interface buttons (even not all of them are described in the docs), but to see how people use them. I know it takes a long time to do it, but I miss more videos in messiah, and there have been quite a few in the last years. I'm not a devote of reverse engineering either, specially when things get really complex. I prefer to spend 30 mins. learning something specific that spending 2 hours looking at the content scenes, since from these 2 hours only 15 mins. are worth, and time is a big issue for me ( as anyone living with 3 children knows).
Let's make messiah the next zbrush revolution...
Merry christmas.

You have to activate the min max shader with the grey checkbox at the left next to the greyed out values for the A channel.
BTW. you dont need to use the "min max node" no more in a render node setup like yours, since you can do that directly on the texture node with the remap function.
