View Full Version : how do you create powder in 3ds max??
oxygen8o8 12-09-2004, 04:52 PM i want to have a small amount of color powder on a table.i'm makeing an abstract poster called powdergun and i wanted color powder on my base (ground)i dont want the powder to be flat,instead i want a small hill of powder for example you pure salt on to the table and have a small hill .how can i get an effect like that in max.should a create a place and add noise to it,but then what material would i need to get the soft grain look? any help is coolthanks for your time.

create a mesh thats the shape you want for the powder mound. Then take a photo of a your powder layed out flat and texture the mound with it.

What about something like this (http://www.pyrotechnic.hostultra.com/3d/Powder.jpg)? Just a simple noise bump-map. I have the scene if you want it.

sure the scene file would be cool,i just need to figure the best way for the edges,it needs to have spread sections like this pic.

The outer edges need to be sorted, they still have the noise modifier on, you could either convert them to meshes and pull the verts around or keep the stacks un-collapsed and pull the ground plane up. If you want the scene PM me an email address I can sent it too.
