View Full Version : Digital Painting: Female + step by step
anticz 08-30-2002, 05:15 AM I was just digging thru some old stuff and found this step by step image I made quite a while ago but never posted. Any way the basic technique I used here was to lay down stroks of paint and smudge them together. I used photo ref for this. Can't find the original phot I used but it's a pretty well know image of Latia Casta (I think). I'm sure someone here can track it down. Anyway, here's the step by step.

And here's the finished image.

Don't know if this is useful to anyone but I figured I'd post it anyway.

Anticz, thanks for posting the step by step, as a beginner in digital 2d art, I find it all very helpful. The final image is beautiful, great work!
Thanks to Wacom_Knight for the tutorial link too, looks very promising.

man that's going in my demo folder. In the 1st fram I couldn't figure out what you where doing, then I kept looking to the right. Great process and image. Thanks:buttrock:
My only crit Anticz (and I am hardly worthy of giving you a crit :) ) is that this smudging technique can make a lot of the edges soft and airbrushy looking. I think that your techniques is best combined with some hard brushes and/or masking to give a mixture of hard and soft edges in the painting. For instance most of the definition on her skin is too soft and fuzzy for my tastes :)
BTW, what's happened to your good friend Ron Lemmen these days? It would be nice to see some of his latest stuff. That guy is pretty good at the old 2d

Hi Everyone,
Been a little busy lately but I appeciate the feedback. No tutorial in progress. Just sort of found this randomly in a folder called "InProgress". Must have started a tutorial when I did this and got busy and forgot about it. I remember doodling most of this out while waiting for test renders to finish early in Myst 3 production. Glad a few people here found it useful.
thanks!
damn good help actually!
