Richard Lyons has entered the Grand Space Opera 2D.

Challenge Page (http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/grandspaceopera/view_entries.php?challenger=5463)

Latest Update: Line Art: A new planet
http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/entries/6/5463/5463_1102903044_medium.jpg (http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/entries/6/5463/5463_1102903044_large.jpg)

This is the perspective I’m going for, the buildings and the space ship may be subject to a lot of changes as I start to colour, in fact now that I am looking at it the large building it has the completely wrong angles on it. That will be the first to go. The weapons that the body guards are holding will also change, they have not been paid nearly enough attention. I am thinking multiple different light sources from flames, spot lights, and one natural light.
Love to know what you think, let me have it.

Getting a late start, was not going to submit anything for this challenge but after seeing some of the pic so far I was inspired.
Concept is a princess with her body guards taking the time out from battle to look at her new planet.

Working on the characters, sketched and then a quick shade in Photoshop. Quite happy with the result and may use this image as the line work for the larger image.
Will need another body guard on the left side the balance the pic and put the princess in the center of the image.

Tell me what you think, Cheers.

That's really nice! Kind of reminds me (in a good way) of The Maxx or BattleChasers. I like the blown-out proportions of the bodyguard a lot, though I feel like his gun could be pushed further to match his physique (it feels a bit stubby to me.) And (I hope you don't mind my pointing this out) her right knee (the screen left one) feels a bit high compared to the other knee and given the perspective that you've got the camera at... But I could also be reading that wrong, just thought I'd point it out to be safe. But anyhow, it's looking very cool, can't wait to see it with the colors eventually! Best of luck!

hi, very clear and interesting sketches. I like the idea. But I have to say I think the bodyguard looks like the lovechild of Kosh (from babylon 5) and the sugarpuff monster :) anyway, just kidding! cool stuff.

Nice composition. I really like the helmet design on the big guy. Not too sure about her hat, though. Overall, good work.

Another body guard for the back ground and so I can place the girl in the middle of the image.

Hell yeah... these guys look really intimidating and the girl reminds me of a very
dominating sort of utterly nasty aunt type person who happends to be a head chef
(no offence but - what`s with her hat)

Thanks everyone for the words of encouragement but there isn't a chance in hell that I can finish this before the dead line, I have been extremely busy with work and Christmas/new-year festivities and haven't had a chance to look at it in weeks. The concept will go onto the back burning and will be completed at some later stage.

I have coloured in an old character concept to make up for the lazy effort.

Thanks again, good luck to those who are still in it, can't wait to see the final line up.
