Hi guys,

I have already posted that on the 2D/3D WIP section, but thought I could have more chance to be helped posting here.

I have decided to work on the violin model I had beginned. I'm now stuck at the texturing step.

I really do not know how to simulate realistic specular and reflections on this...soo if anyone of you can help that would be great !

I'm using 3dsmax 4.2 and vRay 1.08, but I feel totally lost :(

Here is the model I work on :

Here some photo references to see the kind of aspect I'd like to achieve :

Well I hope you'll be able to help me, I really would like to improve this violin !

Thanks to all by advance !

Well, a good place to start would be to place the object into an environment containing other things that it can reflect. Alternatively, you could use an image environment wrapped around your current scene.

Then, make a map map that follows the grain of the wood, and give it some specularity and reflection.
Ideally, for a realistic touch, it's nice to paint a bump map that has little tiny chips and holes here and there, like in the one image you have posted.

This surface really will be an easy one to do ;)

Does Max have a Fresnel reflectance shader ? That usually does a very good job in simulating the reflectance you get from polished wood.
