animalunae 08-29-2002, 08:26 PM Done in Maya, subdiv, used to be on the WIP Section but when it became close to final stage I wanted to put it here, to get more comments about detail, shading is still a "?". Any comments are welcome though.

Yup, the car need a bit of polishing. Give it a gloss and you have there a mighty fine car!;)
Cool modeling!!

the modelling looks really good. Biggest crit is the non-glossy paint job. It's a bit flat right now.

Take a look at the pictures done by Porsche themselves, always shot in a monochrome environment, resulting in a less glossy look, but it's a fact though, there's some wax missing

Derbyqsalano, I checked out the Porsche site. While I agree with you about those particular photos, unless you are trying to copy the photo, I would gloss that paint up a little. Remember, a good majority of the people that will view your work, won't be looking at the porsche web site to check for accuracy. As far as adjusting the paint, I think you need to achieve a balance between specular highlight, and reflections. Great job soo far!

Glossyness and reflectiveness, although amost one-in-the-same, have different qualities. If you notice the cars on the Porsche site, although they have that flat-gloss look, they still reflect their surroundings rather sharply. The highlights are flat while the reflections are sharp. Just increase the reflections a bit and you should be on point.

Nice modeling job! About the shading, I think the Porsche guys are putting normally shiny cars in a studio with very carefully constructed 'hotspots' - designed to have soft falloffs in every direction. (On top of that I'm sure they're also airbrushing the final images.) :)
If you want to do that, you could make the car more reflective, (and maybe have a look at some of those nice car-paint shaders at Highend3d.com). Then create some large incandescent planes to reflect in your car paint, and apply ramps to these planes so they have a nice falloff. (I'm not sure but I think in reality they are big semi-transparent screens lit from behind.) You could even use area-lights positioned close to those planes, and of a similar size. But in that case you may have to reduce specularity so the highlight doesn't drown out the reflection.
