View Full Version : Paintert palettes
madDave 12-07-2004, 02:34 AM I've been messing with painter and I have to say that version 9 has me very dissappointed with the palettes. It seems so difficult to pick the color I want with that little blot up in the corner, and if I want to pinpoint a different color I have to go out of my work area. I can not just pick a color on the fly and go back to painting, and I can say the same for the brushes. When I paint in real life I go back and forth between brushes and colors as I feel. I'm brand new to painter so maybe what I'm looking for is there, but so far I can't find it.

HI
You'll get better and it will seem less awkward,... the more you paint.
You are able to increase the size of the little square by clicking on the icon next to the x in a square,.. on the color set palette. A screen will pop out and way down at the bottom you will find "swatch size."
Or you might find it better to make a small spot of your colors on your painting, real handy and easy to clean up..:)

Hi,
In addition to GoldCoin's suggestion increase the Color Sets' color square size:
• You can also drag the Colors palette and/or the Color Sets palette out of the docked palettes to place it nearer your painting. Click and hold in the blank area of the palette name bar, then drag to the position on the screen where you want the Colors or Color Sets palette.
• Hold down the Alt/Option key to temporarily activate the Dropper tool when you want to pick colors from your working image or from another open image. Let go, and the Brush tool is again activated (or whichever tool you were using).
• Use the Color Sets menu options to create new Color Sets:
New Empty Color Set (then click the icon with a plus sign to add a color to your custom Color Set)
New Color Set from Image (instantly create a custom Color Set from any open/active image or photo)
New Color Set from Layer
New Color Set from Selection
New Color Set from Mixer (mix colors in the Mixer palette, then save them as a custom Color Set)
• Read Painter IX Help > Help Topics to learn how to use Custom Palettes to hold brush category icons, art materials icons, main menu command buttons, and palette menu command buttons, set up for the specific project you're working on. With a single click, your favorite brush variant can be selected or with a single click a brush library can be loaded, or a main menu or palette menu command initiated.
• Read Painter IX Help > Help Topics to learn how to set up keyboard shortcuts however you like.
We really do have tremendous freedom to set up our workspace in whatever way works best for us, and to set it up in multiple ways for variousl projects.
