thanks airborne, i know i am joining late i have been thinking of joining for a while and i know there isn't much time left! so lets get this started :) after deciding to join about an hour ago i have a very rough concept for the first part of my entry (this will be for the battle part of the image).
this challenge is mainly for me as it will definately be a challenge, however i will try to stick to the rules and compete with all the excellent entries and works in progress already, great job everyone!
i am hoping to include many aspects of the situation in the final composition. i am thinking of having strong characters to set a style and give an impression of the state of this galaxy where the drama is taking place. im going to incorporate a battle scene, and hopefully show how it affects the people/beings of this area on a deeper level... i am thinking a portrait layout will probably work better for what i want to do.. any com/crit at anytime is appreciated!

the idea here is a battlefield scene with a conflict happening with colonizing a dead planet in the background, i think the old g.i. joe tank needs a new design. hehe more coming soon!

You are in the right mind set, everyone should treat the challenge as an opportunity to push their skills, instead of competing with one another. I think everyone knows that here though, so you shouldn't have a problem getting good feedback.
As for your rough sketch, the idea is interesting. I see the final having a Halo (Game) type of atmosphere. Keep it up!
