I'm not being especially stingy with the polys (1268), but I don't want to go overboard either as all I basically want is enough detail to animate with, and I'm happy with it now as far as that is concerned. The only thing I might do is tweak features and proportions or fix any dodgy geometry I may have overlooked. The style I'm going for is sort of stylized and cartoony more than realistic.

The setting for this character is ancient Egyptian mythology, but the design was based on photos from a historical reconstruction book.

Thoughts?

Good work. His feet, are they in sandals, which are not modelled in great detail? If not they might be a tad clunky... His neck could also be a tad taller. Just a thought. How is his internal relationships? They look fine from here. If you want to, measure his height from head to toe, that should be roughly the same as his length from fingertip to fingertip when his arms are stretched out to the sides. Let's see the animation as well!

So far good start.

The character is built like they would be. The only crit I have is - detail.

The feet, hands, even face. Just keep adding detail. Keep it up!

Yeah they're sandals. I'll put the detail in the texture is the plan. I may add little bit more here and there to facilitate deformation though.

My HD crashed so the texturing has been delayed a bit, but there should be an update soon.

Now with textures:

I painted the textures in Photoshop based on the same historical reconstruction photos. The clothes are primarily based on a Nubian temple-guard whereas the general appearance of the character comes from an Egyptian infantryman, albeit with plenty creative license.

I've also tweaked the model a bit. I still need to add teeth because I'm gonna need them when I do the morph targets, but aside from that I'd say this is pretty much finished.

Yeah, I like the colours and design of the textures. Can't really think of anything to crit really, for what you're wanting I think it does the job. I was going to say your painting is quite rough and sketchy...but then I think that comes across as a style which is different. The important thing is that it looks like a texture design that works. If anything, you could maybe give the textures a little more detail, for example the nipple is just a one colour circle...but then it does the job so its not really much of a issue.

Good luck on the skinning/rigging

It's not actually made for any particular game, but it is intended as a game model. The how and why I'll go into some other time. ;)

Uhm... Nubians were way darker than that.

Yes. As I said, the clothes were based on the Nubian guy. This character is supposed to be Egyptian.

Rigged it now and did a quick animation test:

Nice animation. How about a little bit more overlap on the loin cloth as he lands?

Yeah this is looking good. What method you using for the cloth?...flex or clothsim?

I always and try to find a fault with everyones work instead of just going "yeah super!"...so...the main crit for me is the back foot...when it steps back after landing it looks really flat, could do with a bit of a tilt I think. Also head movements seem to be a bit lifeless.

Yeah the cloth wants tweaking. I animated it quickly by hand with a 2x3x6 FFD modifier.

You may be right about the foot. I might tweak that a bit. I didn't actually put any keyframes on the head. It's in the start pose the whole time and I just left it, but yeah it could use a little movement... and maybe a look to the side would be a nice touch.
