Hey,

http://www.telescript.com/images/tony/zombie_eyes.jpg

I was inspired by the eyeballz thread, and so I made an eye shader other than the doll eye shaded, because it didn't give some controls that I wanted. Anyway, I ended up with a pretty good eye shader, but with a few tweaks here and there I got this zombie eye shader. With this one shader I am able to change one or two settings to come out with bloody or decaying eyes. The eye shader was made up with AON shader nodes and gradient nodes were used to control pattern, texture, translucency. Some SSS was used with the basic shader.

One Key light, a blue fill light and a backlight was used. No GI, AA Enhanced 3, Halton with sampling DOF.

No eyes were hurt in this production.http://www.cgtalk.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Wow, Tony! That's awesome ... it has a very realistic and tactile feel to it. You'll have to share how you came about this when you get a chance.

Glad to see you from the Silo forum, Pnoland.:)

Thanks guys! I'll post the shader and explanation, but it still needs some work, it works great for stills, but I haven't figured out some things to make it work for animation much in the way Taron's Doll-eye shader works.

Very nice! So this is geometry, right?

Thanks guys.

geometry?

Partly, the shader and shader controls create alot of the look and feel. Once I resolve some issue I will post the shader and setup for others to examine for their own shaders.

modeled = iris modeled (ie the recession of iris and pupil, with cornea as transparent dome on top) or just a shader, like Taron's. Or is this Taron's?

Yes, partly, the iris is recessed but not the pupil, the pupil dialation is being controled by a shader and a shader control so it could grow larger or smaller similiar to Taron's approach. The cornea is a dome. I original used Taron's doll eyes shader, which worked fine and gave me the exact same look as the zombie eye shader I eventually went with, but unfortunately from a side angle the doll eye shader doesn't work properly, so I abandon it and setup this zombie eye. I am going to try and animate it to show the pupil dialation as well as controlling the bleeding of the eye from the iris.

Yuck thats disgusting so You did a great job.

Post a crenshot unrendered to show how far you shader goes.

Do you mean shot of the shader node setup or the viewport? The viewport I'm afraid won't reveal much, unlike the shader tree.

Both actually if have the time and webspace, from the previous question ...ppl were wondering if you had to do any modeling besides making, placing a sphere.

Sure. I'll try and set something up.

Glad to see you from the Silo forum, Pnoland.:) I'm all over the place! :D ...though I'm not a Messiah user (yet?) I just thought the image rocked. :)

I'm with Gary, good to see you here. If you are looking for something to do character work to go with Zbrush, messiah:Studio is a pretty good choice.
