WHY SURE THERE IS!

If you dig SF/F get into the RPG/CCG gaming field, thats where I work full time and part time in comics.

A good place to start looking and finding what its all about go here:

There is always room for more!

book illustration andgraphic desing are always good too. Stay out of classical animation as there aren't a lot of jobs there right now, and when one does pop up, one of the unemployed artists from disney or dreamworks typically ges it, main reason to stay ot though is because I need less competition for a job ;)

Hey Wacom, what RPG games have you worked on, thanks for the link I will check it out, maybe expand my possibilities.

Visualizing for advertising (like sketching how a picture should become before it's taken). Illustration for magazines, advertising, book covers etc. There are a lot of illustrators who specialised in for example medical illustration, technical illustrations (allthough more and more 3D ;) ) or cartoony stuff.
Graphic design is mentioned (the basics of my own profession)... but keep in mind that graphic design and illustrating are two different things, just often overlapping. It could be a way to start there, to get to know people, work on your skills and get your foot between the door somewhere though (is that an expression in English too?).

If you're only interested in spaceships, naked chicks and monsters, I suggest movie storyboards or the gaming industrie, but I don't have much experience with those two (except for a couple of storyboards for commercials). I do know you certainly will not be the only one who's in search for a job there.

Almost. I believe you meant to say "get your foot in the door". At least, that's what the guy said in "Trainspotting".

...as in the opposite of "banging your head through a wall".

hmm, thanks for the feedback guys,
although it sounds like theres still only a few
considering the style of art I do(check my site), the rpg
thing sounds interesting, I remember seeing some fascinating
artwork in those types of books

Tad- That guy in the bottom right corner of your "drawings" page is dying to be colored....cool pose and character. Please do another different one and post it in the mini challenge, hint, hint.

As far as work goes, you got me, all I know about is illustration and in the slow economy it's a slow market. Hope it picks up soon.

Just to echo jeroentje there is actually a surprisingly varied amount of jobs for people with 2d skills. The best paid are in the advertising industry: either visualising, storyboarding or illustrating final artwork. Advertisers use all sorts of imagery, from stylised lifestyle illustrations or more friendly carttony stuff to photoreal images for specific campaigns. Closely related to advertising is packaging, many products use illustrations on their packaging rather than photos because illustrations can be more easily controlled to show the product in the best possible light.

More obviously visible is the publishing world, where illustrators are used extensively in books and magazines. This is a very competitive field and not as well paid as advertising but there are still many possibilities for those with talent and determination.

Finally there is film and games, where 2d artists are used for concept, storyboards and matte painting.

Again, I would echo the sentiment that if you want to make it in one of these fields it is vital to have a broad portfolio and an original style. Most commissioners aren't looking for fantasy or sci-fi stuff but contemporary work. Rather than a big breasted babe they would probably rather see a cool girl in trendy clothes :)

thanks guys!

sleepless: thanks for the compliments,
thats one of my favorite drawings also, although I'm afraid
I dont really have time to color him(i'm about 25% as fast at coloring as I am at penciling, but getting faster :)), right now
i'm designing characters and environments for a comic book i'm going to draw, keep an eye out, hopefully i'll post it up on the net.

frog: thanks for the info,
all those jobs sound pretty sweet
and heh, dont worry about the bigboob girl thing, i rarely
draw that type of girl :) (although I think about em alot:shrug: )
