Hello. If anyone ever experienced this please help.

I was playing Half-Life2 when all the sudden the computer did a harsh reboot by itself. Now the computer freezes at ram check screen. But sometimes it'll make it to the desktop just enough to see my desktop and it freezes. The hd light stayed on the entire time, even after it freezes. Also I was not able to boot into safemode. and by trying to boot with last known good configuration it failed as well. The entire time the motherboard did not indicate error via beeps.

I was thinking that it could be HL2 because it just did a patch update. I tried to see if it's the ram by trying them one at a time. When I use the first slot from the left the computer simply would not even get to the bios screen. And when I used the middle and the right slot I get DRam error beep by the motherboard. The two rams that I have are 512 DDRs. So I suspect that it could be my motherboard, but I'm kinda out of ideas. Is there a way to find out if my motherboard was the culprit? or if anyone had similar problem please let me know. Thank you in advance for reading my rambling.

Oh my specs are:
AMD64 3000
Gigabyte k8vt800pro
geforce 5800oc
klingston and geil ddr ram
Enermax Coolergiant 480w
seagate HD for os
winxp pro service pack 2

if more info is needed please let me know. Thanks

I had a very similar problem a few days ago on my machine, except it happened when I was running C&C:Generals. My harddrive would also run, and it would reboot itself sometime during the boot sequence every time - safe mode also did this.

I still don't know why that happened, but reformatted my HD did the trick.
I didn't have the RAM problem though. Maybe a BIOS update would help?

www.memtest.com is the website i think..it might be www.memtest86.com

that program will check your RAM for errors, you'll have to make a bootdisk - i'm not sure if it would work if you made it on another computer though...you could try it though.
