Recently, they released the full version for free. I downloaded and installed. Is there a BIG BIG BIG difference between 3.0 and 4.0?
Are you "limited" in 3.0? or can you make anything that your imagination creates?
Same app + tool improvements, tool additions, performance improvements...
I was fine in 3... happy to be 4.

If it is XSI3 EXP, it is free, it's kinda like Maya PLE... but you can load .scn files and .exp files (specific only too EXP), as well as importing Dotxsi, obj, si/3d, iges, eps, model and reference models. Saves are only the .exp format (which only EXP can read)

Lots of info on features and such listed in the above links

I would just use the EXP version as a learning tool so you can get comfortable and familiar with XSI while you save up enough money for Foundation. It's great of these companies to put out learning editions so people will be able to get rocking when they throw down the money for a full seat of the program. What a time to be a novice in computer graphics...like me. ;)
