I'd like to try out Dan Neufeldt's cityBuilder script (link below) in OSX and I think it won't work there as is. I can get it to load up through Script Editor and start processing on a plane, but it stalls: "The image sampler plugin could not be found in the default Maya plugin directory". The script consists of...

AEImageSamplerTemplate.mel
cityBuilder_Full.mel
cityBuilderIcons folder (all bmp)
imageSampler.mll

My understanding is that the .mll file needs to be converted to a .lib or a .dll. Yes? OSX doesn't recognize mll format. And that a newb can't really do it -- ya need XCode or something?

Also I think the icons need to be xpm's, but that's easy to do in GraphicConverter, and then you edit the script to look for them instead of the bpms.

Anything else?

I haven't asked for permission from Dan yet. I imagine I'd have to do so before distributing it. He describes the script here...

Cheers.

Greetings Mark,

A .mll file is created in C++. Unfortunately this means that it has to be recompiled with every new operating system. This can be either a no problem at all conversion, or needing to rewrite the entire thing depending on the classes used etc etc etc. In other words, the only way you are going to get it to work is to contact Dan and get him to recompile it for you. I'm a good friend of Dan's though, and I'm sure it wouldn't trouble him if you asked. (You have the script so I assume you must know him too) If he has the means, I would't be surprised if he recompiled it.

Thanks Zac. That helps. I just wanted to make sure I understood what had to be done. I'm getting shader and mel script stuff mixed up. I don't really know Dan, I just contacted him the one time to try out his script, but I'll ask him about the recompiling. Thanks again.
