I am considering getting an lcd for 3d work. I have been looking at the range from viewsonic, but I have two questions. Do they reproduce colours accurately, because i've seen a few lcd's that make their whites look pinkish or yellowish. Will the viewsonic do this? Also is there a really big difference between response times, contrast ratios, and resolutions? I am looking at 2 models at the moment. They are the Viewsonic VP191B, & the VP201B.

The VP191B has:
1280x1024 optimum resolution
700:1 contrast ratio
170 degree viewing angle
16ms response time
brightness: 250cd/m2
PRICE: R6875

The VP201B has:
1600x1200 optimum resolution
400:1 contrast ratio
176 degree viewing angle
16ms response time
brightness: 250cd/m2
PRICE: R12 740
Both have DVI-D & analogue inputs

As you can see the price difference is quite big, so do you think its worth it spending so much more to get 1600x1200 instead of 1280x1024, and a few extra inches of viewing space. The colour reproduction is important, and I will also be doing some animations on it, not major stuff though, and I'll also occassionally play farcry on it. Do you think these are the right kind of monitors to be looking at for my needs?

The 191 has a better contrast ratio. I would take that over more screen realestate.I have a VX710 and I am quite happy with its color reproduction.

PC World did a review and gave the Viewsonic VP191B top score in image quality so should satisfy your concern for color:

If you want larger screen, you may wish to consider the Dell monitor. Seems that a Dell 20" LCD monitor is going for R8413 (excl shipping) but has similar specification to that of the Viewsonic.

I recently assisted a customer with the purchase of a 19" Viewsonic LCD and it was quite nice, but it taught me something very valuable.

Most 17" and 19" LCD screens BOTH have a resolution of 1280x1024. This means you aren't going to see any more on a 19" LCD than you will on a 17", everything will just look bigger. IMO, if you can't afford something bigger than 19" or with a higher resolution, you are better off getting a 17" LCD, or better yet, 2 17" LCDs.

Exactly what I did! :)
